If you are having these professionally replaced, the installing company will usually do the ...»
measurements for you. However, measure from the left window jamb to the right window jamb. Measure at the top, middle and bottom. Write down the smallest of these 3 measurements you take. That is your window width. Next measure from the top jamb to the bottom jamb. Do this along each side, add a middle measurement if you have wide windows. Again take the smaller of the measurements. The two smallest results is your windows size.

  • My Backyard Beach... in Chicago! :-) 6

Spring is coming - can't wait to hit my hammock in my own Backyard Beach!

Just wanted to share my own little patch of paradise I made after I cut down a huge evergreen tree! I left up the stump about 6 feet tall because I always wanted a hammock. The problem ...»
was the nine foot area of lawn under the tree had died and was full of yuck. So I cleaned out the space, laid heavy plastic down, added a tiki-esque log border and added a LOT of sand. I wheeled it in a lawn spreader - much more manageable than a huge wheelbarrow. Added a thatch umbrella with u brackets drilled into the tree and a hammock. LOVE IT. I know - everyone yells at me about wild cats and animals but who cares - I rake the sand and have never found anything like that. I enjoy reading with my toes in the sand! Fins Up!

My Pergola on my backyard patio

We installed an aluminum white pergola kit ordered from Lowes to our back patio when we lost our two patio shade trees. We love how it is maintenance free and gives us all the shade we need.

Outdoor Living: I am trying to xeriscape my Florida backyard.

I am diminishing the amount of lawn, and making an Arroyo to distribute rain water from the roof gutters. I would love to hear about other projects here in Florida.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Wind Mitigation and Insurance & $$

If you live in Florida (I'm not sure about other states) this may save you a lot of money. You need to make an appointment with a certified wind mitigation inspector. I had this done ...»
and I save hundreds of $$ a year on my insurance. Same on my rental house.

My home was re-certified last week because the insurance company required it and paid for it because it was a recertification. The inspector told me I would continue getting the insurance credit & the prior inspector did a very good job.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to get rid of, or at least curtail, the carpenter bees?

We have a huge deck and they are already swarming. Have had it professionally sprayed in the past years but didn't really see much of a difference. Last year, used the Raid hornet spray ...»
and it helped some but could have used a can a day. Was hoping someone might have a "secret household ingredient" type spray we could try. Tyring to keep from adding more chemicals to the environment.
