About Me:

i'm an artist from pittsburgh who fashions jewelry and accessories from found objects. a flea market junkie and an old-school hippie, i travel across the country buying goodies and selling my designs. i write about my travels in my blog titled 'trails and tribulations'

Favorite area of home improvement:

i love decorating with the things i find in my travels, predominantly vintage or antique items. i feel surrounded by the people who had loved these items in their previous life. i especially love using items for purposes other than that for which they were intended. i believe you should surround yourself with things you love, and your home will become your sanctuary ! i recently purchase a 110 year old house which i will gradually be renovating with things i find a long the road !

  • Found some old, dinged-up, grimy, dusty handmade wooden boxes. They held hardware in someone's basement for decades ---until I came along and changed their purpose in life :)
  • Turquoise bar/handle (original color!) was salvaged from a vintage deck chair and was simply meant to be reincarnated here.
  • Shutter slats: cleaned, trimmed, some were painted, sanded, glued and nailed. (dabs of glue used only as a temporary hold)

DIY: Repurposed Wooden Boxes

When you are known for repurposing old stuff like I am, friends and neighbors become your salvage allies. Nothing like an "emergency call" to rescue discarded goods from a garage, basement or estate sale.

Recycled Paper Heart Wreath

On a quest to use up some of our empty cereal boxes, I created a simple wreath that can stay up past some of the more traditional pinks and reds of Valentine's Day. Super easy, tutorial included.
