About Me:

I love gardening, making soap and beeswax candles...I've been researching on the web for directions on how to make my own laundry soap...I've been looking at ways to lessen our impact on the environment by useing all natural things...like mixing sugar and borax to kill ants and useing vinigar to kill weeds....I make my own bread and my own butter...Since retiring a year and a half ago I more time to do all these things...I give a lot of soap to my reletives and friends but am thinking I may start selling it.....Hope I didn't jump around to much here but I was writing as fast as it was coming to me.....

Favorite area of home improvement:

I bought a fixer upper a few years ago and I can't say which area is my favorite area...I've enjoyed every project I've taken on...It has taken years but I've chosen my own style...I retired a year and a half ago so I've had more time to do all of the things I love...I forgot to mention in the about me section that I also love thrist stores and funky antique stores....Some of my decorating has come from there...I have a shed full of upcoming projects...hehehe...The next furniture project I plan to do is a sewing cabinet my neighbor gave me...I took the sewing machine off and disposed of it....It is the cabinet that I like...I plan to refinish it and just use it for a cabinet...I have so much to keep me busy...I could have kept working if I wanted and people were saying you will get tired and just sitting around....Fat chance!!! I have enough interests and projects to keep me busy for the rest of my life which I hope is a long one!!!!

Gardening: Don't know if this is allowed on this forum, and if not, I guess this will be deleted. But if we can offer to give away

plants, I have a bunch of English ivy to give away. I also have day lilies to be thinned out that I can give away. And some hostas - solid green, not variegated.

  • This is the before of the free dresser
  • After - transformed to an outdoor beverage center

Old Dresser Converted to Beverage Center

A free dresser with peeling veneer became a portable outdoor beverage center. A drawer was removed to make a shelf for glassware, and drawer #2 was customized to hold up to four 2 liter ...»
bottles. An ice trough was made for the top and behind the doors the tools needed for an outdoor bar are stored. Two coats of latex paint, one coat of Ebony stain and two coats of marine varnish later it was ready to party. See the whole transformation and all the photos at www.BlissRanch.blogspot.com

  • This almost shows the whole of both towers. 8
  • I disassembled all of my collected lamps and laid out the globes to see approximately how much rebar I needed for the tower. 2
  • I used 3/8 inch rebar threaded through all of the pieces. I didn't end up using this base though. The actual construction was quite a bit of trial and error in 100+ temperatures! ARGH!!
  • I used the biggest globe and lamp base for the bottom of the tower. 2
  • I primed and painted all of the lamp pieces I was going to use between the globes. 1
  • I alternated the globe pieces with a lamp parts. Initially I tried to use only the globes but didn't like
the way the glass rubbed and was afraid they would break. 2
  • After figuring out that the globes were too heavy for one tower, I made a second tower. 5
  • They are beautiful with the sun shinning through 12

My glass tower vision has been fulfilled! I built it!

I saw one of these in a magazine years ago and I've wanted one ever since. It took me several years to collect affordable pieces but after that it was pretty easy. Here is some of how I ...»
did it. For more specifics and lessons learned in the tutorial on my blog. #Itching4Spring

Man Kills 40,000 sq ft Lawn

Here's a link to a CNN story about a guy that accidentally killed his 40,000 sq ft lawn with a product he thought was just for weed control. (sorry about the ad at the beginning) ...»
http://www.cnn.com/video/standard.html?/vid...

I'm also posting the label on the product.

Do you think the label was sufficient to tell him what he needed to know?
