Home Maintenance & Repairs: Any thoughts on chimney liners?

I'm working on an 1850s home ...some folks say the two chimneys should have them, and others say not to bother. I plan to install gas heaters things that look like fireplaces.....

Any suggestions welcome..thanks!

Painting: Is there any such thing as paint that provides the look of varnish or wood?

I have an old set of double screen doors (and the double access doors) on an antebellum home. They that might be nice varnished, but they've been painted before, which might make ...»
varnishing difficult; i.e., expensive. It would be a lot easier to paint it, but it might look better if it looked like wood finish rather than paint. Any ideas?

Hey Reba, can you strip the old paint off? There are some citrus based strippers now that work ...»
pretty good. A woodgraining tool might work also...you would paint or stain the doors and drag this through. If you are in an old home, you have probably tacl;led lots of projects & the closer you can keep things original, the better! Can you post a pic, you live in a beautiful town & I love old homes!

Painting: Has anyone tried (interior wall) paster that is already tinted or colored?

One brand I've run across is Master of Plaster in S.C. I assume the idea is once you do the plaster work you don't have to paint it, and peeling wouldn't be an issue. Apparently you can choose any color you want ...any thoughts? Thx

What about cleaning old plaster walls that do not have mold on them, but rather are dusty and ...»
dirty? What cleaning products would you suggest that won't hurt the paint?
