DIY Coastal Rope Mirror Makeover

I love a good makeover story and this Wayfair mirror makeover is no exception! I took on the Wayfair/HomeTalk #DIYChallenge by ...»
transforming a sweet and simple mirror into a coastal beach beauty!

With the addition of rope and seashells this mirror makeover couldn't be easier! The most difficult part is sitting for a few hours gluing rope around and around in circles. The key is to keep your rope tight and even, trimming it off at the end and then looping back around with a new row.

After rope is applied, attach starfish using hot glue. Heavily coat shelf ledge with mod podge and layer with sea shell filler. Allow to dry. Visit me over on the blog for even more photos of this "mirror Cinderella story!"

  • Need some texture and color for your outdoor table? Try these easy rope-wrapped and painted terra cotta pots!
  • I started with a simple terra cotta pot!
  • Starting at the top, I used my glue gun to attach the rope.
  • I finished up wrapping the pot with rope. I snipped the rope off with scissors, and secured it down with hot glue.
  • Using left-over turquoise latex paint from another project and a standard paint brush, I painted the base of this pot.
  • Perfect outdoor centerpiece!

  • I added simple trim molding on the ceiling to not only mask where the old lighting fixture had been, but also to add architectural detail to ceiling and define the space above the island. 3

  • By removing the doors on the cabinet, backing it with beadboard wallpaper and trimming out the corners with shelf brackets, there is now more open display space and the cabinetry feels a little more custom 1
