Company Overview

Eric King has been creating award-winning gardens in metro Atlanta for decades. These amazing outdoor rooms blur the line between inside and outside. One of his strengths is his ability to listen to a client's needs, enabling him to design jobs that can be built, not just look good on paper. He studies water flow, elevation change, functional requirements and design intent before determining the final layout. Outdoor Landscaping Awards

MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers] and King Landscaping were honored recently during the Georgia Urban Ag Council Professional Landscape Awards banquet. We won two Distinction Awards in the $50,000-150,000 Design/Build/Installation category.

Our first entry transformed a pool with a generic pool surround and 1990s landscaping into an inviting place to enjoy "Dinner by the Pool." The project included a new outdoor kitchen with an eat-in island, a glass ...»

pendant light above the grill and a custom-designed wood arbor. The shrubs and perennials provide maximum year-round color and interest.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

The goal for the second project, "Room to Move," was to create a series of outdoor rooms that are linked by colors and textures. It included the addition of a grill station, a fireplace and seat walls that flank the fireplace. The homeowners now have engaging spaces in which they can entertain a crowd or relax with a few friends. Shown here in photo.

Create a Water-Smart Yard

A water-conserving landscape is low maintenance, requires less water, less fertilizer, less routine pruning and fewer pesticides. A well-designed landscape should get better with age, requiring less maintenance, irrigation and mulch. Check out the January issue of Atlanta Home Improvement (online) for "Water-Smart Landscaping." Check out this inviting outdoor living space!

It includes a custom deck around a resistance pool and an arbor with a fireplace that anchors one end of the yard. Pavers and stone laid in sod tie the two areas together.

Oh yeah! It looks like a bomb went off before we start laying pavers. Here are the steps. ...»

    1. Design a plan, obviously. Make sure to note grade changes allow for at 1.5% slope for drainage.

    2. Remove existing debris such as grass, old walkways, stumps, etc.

    3. Rough grade to get entire area fairly level

    4. Install compacted gravel base for pavers-4 to 6" and sand base for stone-1 to 2". I don't like to set my stones on concrete pad because if you ever want to move them the concrete makes it difficult.

    5. Lay pavers, set stones.

    6. Back fill around pavers and stones with top soil. Rake level but keep top of soil 1" below pavers/stones.

    7. Lay sod and roll.

Now you can move right over the stones.

Landscape Curb Appeal

For curb appeal remember these three words: conceal, reveal and simplify.

1.Conceal unpleasant views such as the AC units on the neighbor's house with green plants. Don't use pampas grass or roses to hide something ugly--it's counterproductive, drawing attention to the thing you're trying to hide.

2. Reveal the best features of the home by choosing plants that mature below window heights or trees ...»

that canopy above gutter height. Add color, pots and columns near the door to draw your eye. Your eye follows the lawn so make sure your bedlines emphasize the front door as the star of the home!

3. Simplify your designs--don't compete with the home by using too many colors and textures. Your job as the designer is to make the home look its best, not show off how many plants you can use. If the first thing someone notices about your front yard landscaping is how dramatic it looks, you've missed the mark. The first comment should be "What a lovely home!"
