How I use shutters in different rooms in my home.

I liked some of the ideas for using shutters shown on Hometalk this week, so decided to share mine. These have been up for over 10 years.

Coat Rack from an Old Door and Yard Sale Shelves

I bought this antique door at a salvage yard. Turned it on its side, routed out the panels, added mirrors, then hung it over two yard sale shelves and added some decorative molding and ...»
hooks. I love this coat rack! It has enough hooks for each of us to have two! #ProudestDIY

Damaged Coffee Table Top

I covered my coffee table top with batting and marine vinyl. Turned out awesome. Brings the dented/scratched table back to life. Soft enough to rest your feet like an ottoman but sturdy enough to rest a glass of iced tea! Just removed the top and basically wrapped it like a present and used a staple gun to secure it.

5 Timeless Kitchen Cabinet Colors

When I entered the compact rambler that just sold for a record price, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. At the center of the home was a small kitchen and it was beautiful. Efficient ...»
and clean, but with plenty of character. It looked as if it was designed with the careful hand of an experienced pro and built with a team of carpenters.

The best part? This kitchen makeover cost almost nothing and it took only a few hours to complete.

The Small Laundry dilemma

My old house had a "gi-normous" laundry room. I guess it's a good thing that is where we raised our five kids. We are empty nesters now and believe me I have had worse laundry scenarios, ...»
(like dark cold basement, or hot Texas garage). My laundry resides inside. It is small.

When the old laundry pair died, I decided on the new front loaders. I measured carefully because they are pretty big beasts.

Note: Two things I missed: my gas pipe sticks out of the wall a good ways, keeping the machines out from the wall a good ways. When we opened the door, the piece that goes into the door jamb to close the door brushed the front of my dryer front. (glass/plastic bubble juts out)

I had to order two special doors and had them open into the hall although the installer insisted they should open in.

I now wish I hadn't ordered the bases for them, I am short and can't hardly reach the cabinets above. They are wonderful storage, but I cannot get to cabinets above without a step stool. Also, if they were on the floor I could fold on top.

The room is situated under the stairs. The end of the room has a slant ceiling. We purchased a couple of cabinets with additional storage and they fit along the wall under the stair.

My goal was to make it pretty and bright due to having no window in there.
