About Me:

My main hobby is quilting but I also love trying to decorate my newly built house on a budget and still have it look classy. We built this home ourselves and now I am a little overwhelmed with all of this blank space. We went from living in a 980sq ft home to a 3200sq ft home. This just really overwhelms me when trying to decorate. I guess it is just one room at a time...

Crossette turns into a Rosette with Carved Acanthus Center

Every once in a while you run into an architectural detail that, even as an experienced carpenter, you have never seen before. Some doors and windows have Rosettes at the corners and some have Crossettes (small projections of the head casing beyond the casing legs), but this is a Crossette than turns in on itself in a "square spiral" that resembles a rosette. It also has carved acanthus leaves at the center. I would love to recreate this sometime.

  • To paint or not? 4
  • Would love your opinion!
  • Nice lighting in this pic? I would be changing wall color as well! Eeeeekk! Help me! 2

Do I paint my kitchen cabinets? I need your opinion!!!

I know your first reaction may be to "save the wood"....but my cabinets are pretty nicked in some places and I wonder if it would be better to paint them? They are over 17 years old and ...»
have been "well loved and used".

I love the creamy white color of cabinets with bronze pulls and I would love your opinions! Would it give my kitchen a fun update or "what if"....knotty pine comes back in style???? Is that like wishing mom jeans would come back in style? Help!!!!

Paint or NOT?

I have created a clipboard with many of your kitchen transformations as my inspiration! If I didn't include yours, let me know. They have been awesome inspiration and are helping me make up my mind! Here is the link to the clipboard: http://www.hometalk.com/57a1p9smop/board/148.... Follow along!

Sorry for the rough pics. I do not take many pic's in my kitchen! Help!

LOL! Oh no......my cabinets are not even finished yet. :) We have built this house and paid ...»
for it as we went and my cabinets are NOT finished. I have the bottom cabinets up with countertop but NO doors yet. The upper cabinets and island are not even built yet. My kitchen is a mess right now and unfinished but someday it will be...hopefully. :) Hubby is building them and I have stained the base cabinets with English Chestnut.

  • glue the pennies onto the mesh 1
  • penny floor template will help you space the pennies evenly
  • here are a few squares laid out together! Beautiful!

Make a Floor out of REAL pennies

What you need (1) About 300 pennies per sq. foot (2) Weldbond Glue (3) Mosaic Tile Mesh (4) Clear Packing Tape (5) Scrap Cardboard (6) Latex Gloves (7) Cement board (8) Mortar (9) ...»
Unsanded Grout (10) Polyurethane Sealant,

Visit the blog post below to download a printable template. Put the template onto the scrap cardboard and cover completely with packing tape (so the glue wont stick). Simply cut the mosaic tile mesh into 1 foot squares and lay it over the template. Use the weldbond glue to glue the pennies to the mesh -- make sure you use a rubber glove so the oils from your hand don't tarnish the pennies! After you create all your squares, the pennies can be laid just like any tile floor!
