About Me:

I've been a crafter of sewing, crochet, knitting and jewelry making for many, many years! I have my own website now to sell my handmade items. I am always looking for ways to re-purpose or recycle items and love this arena to get great ideas from. I'm a mom and grandma who has the time now to be creative and learn new things, techniques, etc...

Favorite area of home improvement:

Well, I hand painted a cement floor to look like marble tile. It worked! When people came in and saw it, they thought it was tile! I would like to do more, but it is very time consuming! Right now, I want ALL the carpet out of my house!!! Thinking about laminate wood flooring! I also love to change things with the seasons. Being able to sew, make yarn items and work with beads, I have made some pretty cool, unique items for my rooms. Next big endeavor? My craft room! I need to find old dressers, stands, etc...to refinish and use for all my craft items!

Repurposing in the garden

An old cast iron door, with knob removed and bottom cut so that "stakes" on the bottom could be hammered into the ground. I suggest doing this in soft spring soil if you live where summer soil gets dry and hard.

Checkerboard painted concrete basement floor in new craft room I'm building.

I'm building a craft room in our basement. I've painted the cement floor with a diagonal checkerboard pattern using floor paint and a dry brush technique. Using a hand-cut stencil 8 in. ...»
square, I drew a line along one long wall, the a parallel line along one short wall, then stenciled my first row of squares, making sure two corners of the square touched each of the lines for the first one, the the line and the tip of the previous square for the rest of the row. It is not an exacting method, but I was going for an aged, worn look. I dry brushed the paint on, leaving lighter areas to further create a time worn look. The open square I left in their natural concrete state.
