  • "Polatems" (Pots, plates, totems) My husband always says "What will she think of next"! 30

"Polatems" (pots, plates, totems) birdbaths, bird feeders and planters.

I had so much fun putting my "Polatems" together. I collected beautiful pots and plates from Goodwill and garage sales. I dug a hole 12" deep intserted a piece of rebar, which can be purchased at a hardware store in any length of your choice. Fill the hole with concrete. Level the rebar to make it straight. Once the concrete dries..overnight is good, start putting the pots and plates onto the rebar in an artistic order, gluing them as you go..I used glass glue from the hardware ...»
store, it comes in a caulking tube. Use a level to keep each pot or plate straight. You can add pieces in the middle such as a metal dish from an old firepit as a planter or even a terricotta planter. Just be creative. Top it off with a glass ball, a ceramic bird or whatever suits you fancy. There you have it ...Enjoy and watch the birds..even the Hummers like the colors.

  • Kitchen Floor BEFORE-I've had this floor for almost 20 years. It was not in my budget to replace it. I had seen people paint their wood floors, so I decided to try to paint my vinyl/linoleum floor. 2
  • Before painting with primer--I mopped the floor with a little dish soap, Mr. Clean and warm water. I rinsed the floor until the water was clean and soap free. This took about 6 moppings.
After the floor dried, I wiped it down with TSP (Trisodium phosphate). The TSP helps to clean, degrease, and dull the finish of the floor. I used a latex "oops" gray primer.
  • I have 2 cats and a dog. I used my leaf blower to make sure there were no stray hairs flying around. 1
  • To get a good feel for the pattern I used newspapers. 2
  • I got busy with some painter's tape and started painting my squares.
  • I used Mythic paint. It went on really well, and 18 months later, is holding up fantastic. I don't like shiny floors-I chose the original floor for THAT reason. It was dull. I chose a satin paint, and decided not to seal the paint. 3
  • I love how it turned out, but honestly, now that I have black countertops (that I painted) I'm thinking about changing out the blue squares.... You can see the full tutorial over at My Repurposed Life http://bit.ly/IeyAKO 8
  • UPDATED to add. I have changed out the blue squares for dark gray squares. See more details on the blog. http://bit.ly/Y8wq6S

How to paint outdated linoleum floor

Last week I showed my oak cabinets that I painted white. Several people remarked about not painting wood. I hope no one has objections to me painting linoleum. :) ...»

Making a succulent garden in an old birdbath

Upcycled an old, leaky birdbath into a beautiful succulent garden! I mixed about 2 parts compost to 1 part builder's sand and mounded it up in the birdbath basin using small rocks, then added the succulents.http://ourfairfieldhomeandgarden.com

My mini-coffee station, it greets me every morning!

I have always wanted a coffee station with a commercial style coffee/cappuccino maker. The kind in a coffee shop that says "shhhwwwwwlllllllll." You know what I mean. But, hence - my ...»
counterspace is limited. So I created a little area that holds everything nicely. I call it my "Morning Space." Sometimes, its our "after-dinner" and "on the way out to the hot tub" space. So versatile. :)
