DIY Chalkboard File Cabinet

I upgraded an old free file cabinet by spray painting the exterior a high-gloss black and then painting the drawers with black chalkboard paint. Now it's both fun and functional, and it looks great in our home office!

My $50 Thrift Store Dresser Makeover

I found this old, beaten up, wood-tone dresser at a local thrift store for only $50! I could immediately see the potential in it, so I brought it home and gave it a makeover! I used satin ...»
ivory paint on the outside with a wax topcoat. To get rid of the old, musty smell, I even painted the insides of each drawer a soft green called 'Ocean Pearl'. Then, I added a lovely mirror I found at a local salvage store to really take it up a notch! As time went on, I changed our master bedroom's decor a bit and changed the accessories near the dresser to silver, so I spray painted the handles black. I've loved both looks, and love that this dresser is so versatile! It's truly become one of my favorite pieces!

  • I kept the color scheme simple, using only gold, silver, white, beige, and a few pops of greenery.
  • All lit up at night!
  • I added some fun greenery to the tree. I also used silver rub and buff on some brassy ornaments to modernize them.
  • the tree at night
  • I used a big satin white bow as a tree topper and wove the white ribbon throughout the entire tree.
  • I handmade many of the ornaments, and repurposed tons of thrift store ornaments using spray paint, glitter, sequins, and more.
  • I found the crystal ball ornament for 99 cents at a thrift store.
  • I spray painted a bunch of outdated brass ornaments high gloss white. I also made some dangly ornaments out of dollar store glass rocks hotglued to ribbon.
  • I added metallic paint, glitter, sequins, and beading to pinecones.
  • gold glittery ornaments. I also threw in our 2 precious cat ornaments given to us by family.
  • I wanted our tree to be simple and chic.
  • So many ornaments! I did the entire tree for $15!
  • I used vase filler as ornaments. I just attached ribbon.
  • I made ornaments out of little mirror pieces I got at the craft store.

Our 2012 Christmas Tree

I spent $40 on a thrift store Christmas tree and spent a total of $15 creating and repurposing ornaments. I used everything from pine cones, spray paint, glitter, vase filler, mirrors, ...»
crystal chandelier parts, plants stems, and glass rocks to create our tree this year. And I topped it all off using a big white bow as a tree topper! It took me 5 days to complete, but I absolutely adore it!
