Outdoor Living: I'm having French Doors put in between the porch and main living area.

I have had 2 contractors come by and give estimates of $2800-$3000. I went to Home Depot and priced their most expensive French door plus installation-----less than $1500. Please help me ...»
to understand how using a contractor vs Home Depot's contractor can double the price. Is there that much difference in the quality of the doors?

@Four Seasons, I got them from a mail order place and since it was 3 or 4 yrs ago, I can't ...»
remember which one it was. It was either in a magazine or one of the places that send all those offers in an envelope full of ads.

This is an office that I designed from the blueprint stage.

I would like to share the fact that wallpaper is still a wonderful application. This is a Ralph Lauren paisley print paper in the ceiling.

  • PICTURE ADDED PER REQUEST. THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK SO FAR...

Outdoor Living: I have a front entrance of stacked stone and columns at my home, which looks nice; however, I live in the woods.

This results in bugs to lizards and ultimately snakes on and in my front yard and walk. I need to close up the gaps in the stone (goes from bottom to top- app. 300-400 sq ft worth) to keep the food source/snakes away. Any suggestions that is reasonable and still keep a nice front (though wildlife is the most common visitors)?

I haven't tried this, but I have been told that DE (diotomaceous earth) will kill soft shelled ...»
bugs, which should keep food source from the lizards, and on up the food chain to snakes, etc.

Design & Décor: I am thinking of buying an 1898 historic home and would like to have an intensive home inspection/fireplace inspection

done prior to making an offer. What is a reasonable charge for this service? I understand I will probably have to have seperate inspections done.
