I upcycled some stuff I had around the house for a step stool for my cat. She loves it!

Ahh poor baby! I have spots built in around the house for our kitties. Mostly the 20 year old. ...»
She has hiding spots every where. I have one that likes to drink from the potty, so I leave the lid up. Then I have another that likes to fall in the potty! Never a dull moment!

  • The crib springs went to make a towel rack in the kids ocean themed bathroom. Looks like the ladder on a boat, don't you think? 1
  • The sides of the crib went to make magazine racks. This is before I painted them. 2
  • And I used the headboard and the foot board to make a comfy bench for my upcycled carpet display vanity! 2
  • The blanket drawer that went under the crib was turned into a car table for my son.

My son's upcycled crib.

I couldn't stand getting rid of my baby's crib after he no longer needed it. So I upcycled it!

Thanks everyone! I'm proud to say that 5 years later the only piece we don't have is the car ...»
table. He outgrew it and it moved to another home.

Thanks, there was actually a lot of work put into this one. And it looks much better after it ...»
was painted. I cut the spindles down to size and had to reattach the bottom piece. If I were going to do it again, I would leave it full sized! But I made two of them, one for mine magazines (pictured) and one for my hubby's.

  • Here's a close-up of the newly tiled floor. It has really held up for several years, now.
  • When we purchased the house....the pantry had a faux brick floor.
  • We sanded the floor and applied a primer recommended by Sherwin Williams. 1
  • Then we laid the flooring in a diagonal pattern and trimmed the edges to fit the space and trimmed out with quarter round.
  • We added built-ins for storage and display!

Flooring for Under $100

Do you have a room that needs new flooring? Here's an easy and inexpensive flooring option: peel and stick tile. ...»

Have you see the peel and stick tile lately? They have so many great options....and laid in contrasting colors in a diagonal pattern....it is a really amazing solution.

You are lucky Marsha. We put it in our living room and hall and I regret it every day. We ...»
didn't pick cheap tile, but after about 2 years it's just terrible and I can't wait to pull it all up.

  • Isn't she pretty?!? I painted her light, almost Tiffany blue and finished her off with a matte spray glaze to protect the finish.
  • Here is the "before." Terrifying, I know. It's a miracle I didn't burn my house down.
  • Ethan cut a base of wood about 4-1/2 x 8-1/2″, traced a tile, cut a hole in the center, then used a palm router to create an in-lay for the tile.
  • After a little sanding, putty, and more sanding, Ethan added a "U" shaped piece of wood to hold the glue gun. Finally, we painted, finished, and now enjoy!

Trust me...You Need a Glue Gun Holder!

I'm ashamed to say that my most loved craft accessory, my glue gun, was in BAD shape. Glue stuck to the outside, sitting on a tile also covered in old hot glue. So I convinced my ...»
wonderful hubby and resident hand-man, Ethan to build me a hot glue gun holder. It may be the best thing ever. No more falling glue gun or fire hazards!

  • This is not the actual one I had but it's like it. I forgot to take a picture of the project before!
  • Here is the screen with all three sides together. You can see the clothes pins and how they hold things.
  • Here it is over my new sewing station.

Vintage Room Screen turned chalk board

Here's a Vintage room screen that I fell in love with but didn't have a use for in our home. So I took out the curtains, inserted 1/4 inch plywood in the spaces. I had originally planned ...»
on using it in my granddaughter's room so I painted the frame pink. Then I made homemade purple chalkboard paint and painted the inserts. It made a wonderful large chalk board. Since there was no space for it in her room, I hung it on the wall in my craft room. When I changed my craft room around, I reduced the size by using only one panel and hanging it back on the wall. I glued clothes pins around the edge for hanging patterns, instructions, tape measures and other things. It's really handy to have on the wall and my family can leave me notes on it as well!
