Garden Salvage

I took an old door and coated the glass with mirror paint, then I mounted it on my fence. I added some porch poles and bunk bed slats as a frame around the door; decorating it with paint ...»
and flower pot finials. I added a decorative piece of steel as a topper and put some stepping stones in front of it. This is my "secret" door to nowhere.

Hand Painted Reclaimed Wood Art...

I decided to paint this simple dandelion design onto a reclaimed wood panel. I love the look of the rustic wood...natural and distressed...along with the whimsical design. Remember ...»

  • New galvanized buckets can be "aged" by spraying them with bleach.
  • We used a purchased rod system, but I can't recommend it. It's best to use a metal conduit pipe.

Topsy Turvy Galvanized Bucket Planter

Do you love those whimsical topsy turvy planters as much as I do? Have you ever wondered how they are made? Here's one I made recently using galvanized buckets. You can find more details, including the plants that I used, by visiting our blog.

  • After- two coats of paint and top coat. I followed the directions on the Lacquer and added light coats, not heavy because the lacquer will turn white. 6
  • Before- Oak cabinets and island. Baltic Brown granite- 2
  • Supplies & Steps: Clean, tape, paint and top coat. Maison Blanc, Wrought Iron was the color I chose. It is a true black without dark wax.
  • First coat- no priming or sanding needed,
  • After two coats- a little touching up needed and then I'll top coat this piece with Annie Sloan's Lacquer.
  • Sorry for the shadows, on the island, in the photo. I'm thrilled that I chose this paint! I had a bid for $1200 to paint this black. The paint was $44 and the Lacquer was $60- quite a savings. 2

Painting An Oak Island Black

flat finish. Wrought Iron is a true black that does not require dark wax to achieve the black finish. Woo hoo! I have received no compensation from this company.
