Gardening: Can anyone identify this?

I found this odd growth on a coneflower plant today. I thought another plant was growing up through the plant, but on closer inspection, the green is coming directly out of the center of the flower!

Painted Wood Floor

I have hated my parquet floor since we moved into this home, and finally decided to take matters into my own hands. I started by sanding the entire surface. Then I painted the entire ...»
floor with 2 coats of white paint, sanding in between coats. Be sure to let the paint dry between coats. Next, I painted the entire floor with a cream colored paint and let it dry. Finally, I handpainted the squares...each square is 4 of the little parquet squares together. After all of the paint dried, I sanded the entire floor for a worn, cottagy look. Gardening: Crepe Myrtle Woes

We have, what used to be, a beautiful row of crepe myrtles growing in our side yard. Two of them seem to by dying quickly. I looked closer today and there are a lot of dead branches ...»
that you can just break off. When I broke off one of them some black bugs were crawling around inside. I also noticed some scaly looking stuff. There seems to be both dead leaves and new leaves on one of them. I have no idea how old they are. They were fully grown when we purchased the house 16 years ago. Any suggestions of what can be wrong? I hope we can save them. I hope the pics will give you a good idea of what we're dealing with.

Gardening: Can anyone tell me this "plant's" id?

We had a load of soil brought in when we filled in our pool last year. This plant/weed? is growing in several places where the new lawn will be put. I kind of like it fot it's oddness - unusual form. This is the smallest one of 3 plants that have come up so far. thankks in advance
