Schroeder Design/Build creates a laundry room to literally hang in

Would you ever have thought a laundry room could be so fun? Here is a testimonial from our client ...»

Saturday night our daughter clebrated her 14th birthday, by having 12 girls spend the night......all was going well, loud and rowdy with the occasional scream, then silence. I waited before I walked down stairs, so I would not look like an over protecting mom. I cautiously walked downstairs, to my surprise there were no girls. I walked down the hall. The door to the laundry room was closed, but the light was on.

As I approached the door I could hear a voice or two, as I opened up the door, much to my surprise all 13 girls are in my laundry room. I asked, "Why are you all in my laundry"? They shouted "we love your laundry room it's so bright, cool and welcoming....not to mention there was a fair amount of food"

Hidden work spaces.

We designed this model home for a project in Philadelphia. There was an odd niche space off of the living room that was awkward so we created a hidden office area that is behind a large ...»
custom painting. The painting is hanging on a rail so it can be slid back to open the work space or closed when you want to cover the mess.

Landscaping: Dollar weed control

Because of poor upkeep at my neighbor's home only one side of my house was filled with the dollar weed. It took awhile until I realized how bad it was. I love Roundup but it would kill ...»
my grass, too.

I called my lawncare company & asked for help. They stopped my problem by spraying some chemical a few feet into the neighbor's yard and they now do this every quarter of the year. The nice part is they did not charge me more for this service and that side of my yard is nice again. Sometimes we need experts.

  • I found the blue table on our farm. I replaced the top with some pretty substantial planks (also found on our farm), stained them and painted the base blue. I LOVE this little table!
  • These gray drawers were a gift from my brother. All I did was clean them up before bringing them into the house. The wall cabinet is an old kitchen cabinet that my parents gave me. I removed the doors and put bead board planks on the back, then painted it and added corbels.
  • I also found this table on our farm. I cleaned it up, painted the base and stained the top. I made the long storage piece out of a thrift store find, and the folding organizer is made from the doors I removed from the cabinet in the other photo. 3
  • The light fixture is a $2 estate sale find. I used spare parts and a light kit from IKEA to make it functional.
  • I made the curtains out of bed sheets from Walmart and elastic thread. 3
  • An old doorknob holds the curtains back when I want them open. 2

Using salvaged items to furnish a room.

This is my first post~and I'm excited to be here!

My craft room is one of my favorite rooms in our house, and I used mainly salvaged items ...»

and things I made to furnish it. I think they add a lot of character, and I like the fact that it was easy on our budget.

maybe think about painting the house gray - a more modern neutral. I'd go for an earthy medium ...»
gray (vs. a cool / light gray). Also paint the window frames black, they just blend in right now. The black is classic but also has a modern feel, they will really pop. Also do some landscaping around the front, fill in some of the gaps with some low shrubbery. good luck!!

  • My Quilt Wall 4

A way to add color and insulation to an old plaster wall without major construction.

I used insulation foam boards, cut into 15"x15" squares. Than I covered each with batting and fabric using duct tape. To hang on the wall I used double-sided velcro so they can be taken down to clean, or rearranged. It really made this drafty room so much warmer.

Design & Décor: Do you have recommendations for a drapery work room in the Alpharetta/ Duluth area?

I have a friend who needs Southern Living pleated valances made. I did them for her many moons ago before I worked full time. I really like the pate-meadows pattern for southern living ...»
valance. She redid her kitchen/breakfast room, but still love the drapery pattern but an updated fabric. They are fairly large windows.
