About Me:

I'm a wife and mom to three boys who likes to mix old school homemaking with modern technology. I consider myself a wanna-be jack of all trades.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I love gardening, cleaning, crafting and DIYing ~ just about anything.

  • Here's the lamppost landscaping before. Sad.
  • Here's a peek at the after. I switched out a plant with one I had in my back yard, cleaned out the debris and did some trimming.
  • Here's a look at the after.
  • I added a garden flag for some decorating flair.
  • I also spray-painted a portion of the lamppost in oil-rubbed bronze to give it an update.

Here's an example of how we used perennials to add color and interest to this small area in the front yard of this home.

The owner was tired of the typical switch out of pansies and begonias so we accepted the challenge to create something far more interesting. Read more about this project and see more ...»

nadine's back yard oasis completed

On our last trip to our summer home in North Carolina, in the span of four days,we completed the hot tub area. Lots of hard work, but well worth the finished product.

  • Before. So ugly and uninviting. We painted our bolck walls a more cream color and painted all previously dark brown colomns and gate a soft tan.
  • My after is a photo from the opposite end of the alley way of a side yard. I am not done yet. Will post updated photos.
  • I have now added some vine work to the walls too.

Narrow side yard

This is a before and an in progress after.

  • I love creating little "sitting areas".
  • Plants add warmth. : )
  • A shower hut that is always stocked for family and friends.
  • Pool chairs that are all thrifted.....
  • Drop cloth curtains. Wal-mart or thrifted furniture that is spray painted and spruced up.
  • Looks like it was there for years, doesn't it? This was created through bartering. Just completed about two years ago.
  • I pick up umbrellas at yard sales and CL. Adds shade and creates another "sitting" area.

My pool and front yard outdoor living areas were all done on tight and real budgets.

  • This is a before view of what we started with. Although it is not the exact same angle, it provides an idea that nothing was there except the dogwood in the middle. You can also tell that we began working on the design phase with this client a few seasons ago, while leaves were still on the dogwood. We stay on a backlog of work, so by the time we did the installation, it was springtime.

Here is what you can do with a mostly shady backyard. Get rid of the grass and make it a place to enjoy.

dogwood and the large masses of azaleas. We worked around those items to transform the yard. The homeowner wanted a patio space, and by pushing it out into the yard, it also becomes something that is beautiful to look at when inside the home.

We removed all the grass, and after adding several tons of different rocks, the homeowner has a new yard. The overall desire was to keep it looking very natural. The 400 groundcovers, 86 perennials, 48 shrubs, and 1 tree will now need to grow and fill in the areas. In just a couple years, I will have to return to take photos of the area as it matures.
