About Me:

Avid Do-It-Yourselfer but I get gun-shy on new types of projects. For example, it took me a month before I could break open the first bag of concrete when putting up a retaining wall. It took two weeks before I mustered the courage to cut a 8x8 landscape wood for my garden. It just takes a lot of thinking and courage but once I'm there, my finished work is pretty good!

Favorite area of home improvement:

New tile and bath fixtures for Master bath. Kitchen remodel. New deck.

I was truly lucky to find Dave here on Hometalk. I was looking at remodeling my bathroom on a budget. To save money, I was willing to do a lot of the work myself. There were just a few things that I was uncomfortable in doing -- shower base, new electrical for the new lights, and ...»
installing the new faucets. I would do the demolition, installation of the durock and tiling. Called Dave. He came and gave me a very reasonale quote for the jobs I needed and the other things I didn't think of yet. Dave and Chris, et al, got everything done in wonderful time. Everyone on Dave's team was extrememly conscientious and proficient in all they did for me. They not only did the work I asked for but they also gave me lots of advice on the "hows" and "whats" of bathroom remodeling. I will definitely use Dave and Chris again in the other projects in the house. Thanks, guys! You were a godsend!

I don't think I would be able to "go" either. Cool idea but a little too stomach turning for me.

Dave is great! I can't say enough about him. Sorry, pictures are at least two weeks away. I ...»
decided to do more than I initially planned with the bathroom. I was going to leave the old oversized mirror and the 19 year old wallpaper up. But after consulting with Dave and Chris, Hubby and I decided a total update was in order. Dave had just done a fantastic job in replastering the cracked vaulted ceiling. A new paint job was in order. We just decided to extend the paint to the entire bathroom as well. I'll post my pictures of before, during, and after the remodel. I'm proud of the bathroom so far. Even built my own 3 part niche while the drywall was down. $6K and lots of elbow grease spent so far. Will probably end up somewhere at $8K when all is done. Pretty good considering a bathroom remodel is about $15K these days.

Swing Gazebo

This was for a customer of mine. He wanted to surprise his wife while she was away with their children on a sprink break vacation. We have a similar swing at our church, and he asked if ...»
we could replicate it in his yard at home. We agreed upon a price, the materials were delivered, and I constructed the project. All material is pressure treated wood, and the scrolls were cut by hand, then sanded. He will allow the wood to "cure" over the summer, then apply stain in the fall for a finished look.

widespread faucet in a 4 inch space

we are currently updating our bathroom. We decided to go with the Kohler Forte collection -- everything from the toilet holder to the roman tub/shower. We decided to go with the Forte ...»
collection because we loved the lavatory faucet. Then we found out that we have sinks with holes for the 4 inch centerset faucet instead of the widespread faucet. We don't want to change the vanty countrertop quite yet as the rest of bathroom rennovations is already causing a hemorrhage in our pocket book. But we also don't like the centerset look. This may be a dumb question but aside from it looking a little cramped, what real problem is there in using the widespread faucet in a sink with predrilled holes 4 inches apart?

Try sniffing you drain. We had a rancid smell in the bathroom once. Turned out that the slow ...»
draining sink was the culprit. Cleaned it up using a hand snake (Lowe's for less than $5) and a rinse with hot water and Borax. Now I just pour 1/4 cup of Borax and rinse with hot water once a month or when I remember to do so. No more smell.
