I had gotten rid of a GIANT 5 piece entertainment center that was occupying a 17 foot wall that ran down the middle of our 'great room'. Once it was gone I was left with a lot of empty
blankness. I did a little 'at home' shopping and reused pieces from around the house to make this area feel more like a living space and less like a forgotten hallway. I love how inviting it is now! Blog link: http://www.thriftyinspirations.net/2012/06/...

Well done! Also like Tony's idea with built-in's and a ladder! Fun.
My husband Brian and I are DIY/remodeling kooks who bought a 1980s fixer-upper in 2008. Last year, we FINALLY finished the most important room: the kitchen!
What we did: New floors, new cabinets, painted plank ceiling, crown molding, soffit, new island, new appliances...you get the idea! For the "before" and "during" photos, please visit here: http://sixteenfourteen.weebly.com/2/post/201...
Details: Brazillian cherry hardwood floors, custom cabinets, Restoration Hardware lighting, GE Monogram appliances, "White Fantasy" and "Absolute Black" granite countertops.
