  • All the rustic bling makes for a fun focal point in the backyard. The white planter box use to be a firetruck parts crate. A couple pallets offer a front step and side walkway. A rusty old vintage headboard became a gate. 9

  • Isn't this edge pretty? Trust me, this is very easy to do. All you need are three tools you likely already have on hand. 6
  • This was the before. Does this look more like what you have in your own yard? Let's fix this right up!
  • This is a simple half moon edger. Make a nice fresh cut along the grass part of your edges in a nice smooth arc.
  • Once the cut is made, trench out the soil with a hand held garden shovel and mound it away from the edge. Trim the grass along the edge horizontally and vertically to get that nice crisp haircut look.
  • The trench allows for water run off and soil falling, and the shadow just creates a really dazzling finish. 3
  • I created a fun little chart that displays the process a little better. Come check out all 4 steps as well as many other after shots at:

  • Choose your pelargonium parent plant, the healthier the better.
  • I mix up one part potting soil to one part perlite for a loose mix.
  • I reuse pots so I wash them in hot soapy water and a touch of bleach to sanitize. This helps lessen chances of fungal attacks on the cuttings.
  • You want fresh green stems, cut with a sharp razor or xacto knife just below a leaf node. Cutting should be 4 inches or more long with two leaf nodes to put below the dirt.
  • Water and tamp down to firm soil mix around stems. Keep soil moist but not overly wet.
  • Cover with a clear plastic dome or plastic sheeting propped up. Keep in a well lit but moderate temperature area (60 to 75 degrees). My greenhouse gets too hot now so I have mine under lights in the house.

Propagating Pelargoniums or Cloning

I failed to start my seeds early enough this year so I would have bounteous blooms so the next best thing is to start cuttings from my favorite plants!

  • Use a microfiber cloth to pick up as much of the stain as possible. Gently blot, don't rub.
  • Use cool water to dilute the stain then warm soap suds to remove the remaining stain.
  • Use a damp cloth to rinse out soap and remaining stain.

Remove Carpet Stains

Remove carpet stains easily by treating them soon after they happen. I removed red spaghetti sauce from my carpet using this technique. Check out the detailed instructions in the blog post.
