Back Splash

My husband I put together this Bar/China/Buffet area, now it's time to add some finishing touches. ...»

*My motivation to do this project:

A back splash would add more character and light. I was thinking of making some kind of shadow box with lighting from behind or some kind of water feature would be very cool and interesting. Would this be too much with the busy granite counter?

Painting: I would like to redo my bathroom vanity, I would like it a off white color but have the golden oak color now.

How hard would it be to repaint this?

Painting: What is the best way to whitewash/paint older furniture to white?

I'm not sure I want a rustic look, but its the current plan of attack for some hand-me-downs.

If it has a laminate veneer, I would really recommend starting with a coat of Zinsser 1-2-3 ...»
Bullseye primer. It is made specifically for this type of application. I just repainted the most hideous laminate dresser and the Bullseye Primer worked like a dream -- the laminate was a super dark brown, but after one coat of the primer I was able to paint the white on and get great coverage. It's not rustic at all.

  • Weed or groundcover?

Gardening: Does anyone recognize this plant?

I'm not sure if it's the groundcover I planted last year or some kind of weed, but it's seriously taking over my flower bed. If it's the ground cover I'm happy because if it's what I'm thinking it is it blooms really pretty later in the summer, but if it's a weed I need to take some action!

No, I have some of that in another area. A friend suggested it's Mexican Poppy, which I'm ...»
thinking is what I planted last year (I really should have written it down), but it doesn't quite match the pictures I've come up with on google.

If you'd like a neutral with just a hint of green to it, Behr's "Harmonious Tan" goes with ...»
every color I've put up against it. I painted my entire main floor this color and it's neutral without being blah.
