About Me:

I am 5'7" tall, dark blonde hair, blue eyes, 118 lbs. Active, intelligent, adventurous, energetic, inventive, confident, enthusiastic, sharp, fiery, warm, passionate and expressive. Love thunder storms, getting caught in the rain. I have three rescued grown up pups and two of them had babies and I am the proud grandma of two adorable fur baby boys. One MIA Rufus, who is the love of my life, my little soul mate and three kitty kats & two kitty kat babies. I also love, fish, birds, chameleons, thunder storms, even Rufus (MIA) loves storms, clouds, balloons, body surfing, riding waves, surf fishing, just being silly splashing at the beach, collecting shells, boating, gardening with someone, sightseeing, patio dining, wine tasting (prefer blood red, but white with crab legs), pork roasts, lobster, steak, St. Augustine, classic movies, blues, Baroque, some jazz (adore all of Billie Holiday), classic rock n roll, salsa & much more.

Favorite area of home improvement:

My house and yard in general. I have a lot to do to both still.

Paper Bag Floors

If you are in need of new flooring but don't have much money to spend (or even if you do) then this fits the bill! I created this floor out of brown paper, Elmers glue, stain and ...»
polyurethane. It was easy to do (albeit time consuming) and is very durable. This room is 10 X 12 and cost about $80, but future rooms will cost about $30 since I have plenty of leftover supplies. Yes, I see that & understand. I am actually considering doing this to my awful beigey pink, ...»
weird color 1962 (one inch grouted tile) bathroom & just embracing the squares showing. I despise grout lately. IF I had the money, I would use the Armstrong Vinyl Sheeting though out my house. It has great warranty, unless you get the cheapest they have & then it is still good. I like the no seams idea and NO grout. But alas, on Social Security retirement only, it is not an option for me. The whole idea for this to work for me is the many coats of poly to protect the look.

How to Make a Birdbath

I wanted to make a simple birdbath so I had the idea of using PVC piping. Then I bought a white plastic tray at Joann Fabrics and glued that to the top of the PVC pipe. Wala! Birdbath!!

  • Every Spring, I buy Boston ferns in hanging baskets at Lowe's or Home Depot. 2
  • My first secret is to remove the plastic pot they come in and replant them using a good-quality potting mix.
  • I prefer to use coir-lined wire baskets. 3
  • My BEST secret is to install a Rainbird slow-drip automatic watering system. It's a DIY project. Really. See the black tubes hanging down from the porch ceiling? When the ferns are hung, the tubes are placed above them. 2
  • The tubing is connected to a timer and then to a standard faucet. (Mine's in the basement, but yours can be anywhere.) In the heat of Summer, the timer is set to water twice a day for 10 minutes.
  • This pic was taken in October last year -- after a hot Summer. Ferns as large and lush as ever. Yours can be, too! Check out my blog link for more step-by-step pics. 2

bought a lot of them 'online' to put up privacy fencing & then returned what they did not need. Did you find them in a regular supply spot? I talked to a lady that got some returned or scraps in the back corner of the store. But that is a hit & miss situation.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear of this from you Vanessa D. I feel so bad for you. I have decided ...»
to keep a dish towel over the top of my door (closed half into the oven so no more drips fall into mine). Of course here in Florida, I only use my big oven maybe once or so a year in the winter. So, if/when you use your oven be sure to take the towel off.... no more tragedies please? I am thankful you weren't hurt too badly.
