  • 1973 old brick fireplace, floor-to-ceiling. It left the family room dark and dreary.
  • Using a faux-finish, it still looks like brick, but is fresh, light, and opens up the family room to let in more light.

How to Paint an Old Brick Fireplace

You don't have to live with an ugly, dreary, outdated brick fireplace. When we moved into our 1973 home, our floor-to-ceiling fireplace was horrific. I painted it in this tutorial, and it ...»

Upcycle: Baby Changing Table to Desk

I picked up this incomplete baby changing table from atrash pile. If you'll notice, there are only 2 support beams, and two shelf pieces, therefore I couldn't just reconstruct this as a ...»
baby changing table. I love challenges like this!

I tossed around a few ideas: a tree swing, a bench and a desk.

I went with the desk because I don't have a good tree swing worthy branch and I don't need another bench.

What do you have in your house that could be converted into something more useful or needed in your life?

Pedestal for my dish detergent

I had seen a pedestal used in a bathroom for soaps and other things and though I would make one for the kitchen. I used a short pillar candle holder which I spray painted and a painted tin plate which was already green and matched the kitchen. I bought both at a second hand store.I attached the pillar to the plate with clear caulking. It keeps things off the counter and looks nice too.

  • This is the BEFORE. It is a very nice door - but it was just boring. Dated honey oak with brass sidelights. It just needed a little "something".

Paint and scrap wood update for my interior front door...

I was never thrilled with the honey oak front door with brass inserts. As I am working on updating my entry foyer, I decided to .... dare I say it.... paint the solid wood door! I only ...»
painted the side lights white and I darkened the actual door for a new look. I am excited for the way it totally changed the look of my foyer. It also cost me about $4.00 for one piece of wood as I had the other stuff laying around the house. Yay!

For a brief tutorial on how to do this, you can view my blog... Thanks!
