Handmade no sew Tee Pee

I've wanted a teepee for about, oh, seven years now. (PS. did you know tipi, tepee + teepee are all acceptable? The things you learn when writing a blawgh.) ...»

I first spied one in the mall before I got the nerve to try things on my own, and the price tag was not pretty. ($$$ x 4!) Then I wanted to make one, but the sewing part always freaked me out a little. You know, triangles and preciseness, and giant poles falling on your children and eight hour projects amongst other various whatnots. I'm getting the hang of sewing, but I was looking for an easier approach.

So I decided on a no-sew tactic.

PVC Pipe Mirror

We had a ton of PVC pipe leftover from doing our yard, so I put it to good use and turned it into a great statement piece for our entry way. Just cutting and gluing is all it takes! Click ...»

You've heard of a vanishing edge pool, have you seen a vanishing edge pond?

This vanishing edge pond is located on the north shore of Long Island in Eatons Neck NY. The beauty of vanishing edges is the illusion that water is just falling off the edge, additionally the pond reflects as well.

  • I used the cheapest spoons I could find, and actually cut the handles off with a pair of scissors. These were definitely NOT high quality plastic spoons! :-)
  • I used just one color of craft paint for the whole thing, and simply added a little bit more white latex paint (left over from my ceiling) for each row of spoons. 2

Chrysanthemum Mirror Made With Plastic Spoons

This is one of my favorite projects that I've ever done because it proves a simple fact: Pretty decor doesn't have to be expensive (and in fact, it can be pretty cheap). I made this ...»
chrysanthemum mirror using the cheapest plastic spoons I could find at my local grocery store. I glued them to inexpensive MDF wreath forms and then painted them with craft paint. Minimal cost with big impact. My kind of decorating! :-D

Potting Bench

When we replaced the old front door on our 100 year old home, I couldn't bring myself to throw the old one away. This is how we transformed it into a potting bench with repurposed lumber ...»
