  • July 9th after a week of record high temps and very little rain...the plants here are loaded with tomatoes inside the cage and full of blooms too!

Tomatoes and their need for water

I started may 28th planting 4 tomatoes around a garbage can with holes drilled in the bottom rim and a second row up about 10 inches... buried the can to where the top holes just barely ...»
were above the ground... put in two shovels full of compost... then I fill the can up with water ever 2 days and try not to water the leaves... these four plants are now 5 ft 4 inches in less that a month and a half and loaded with green tomatoes and about a hundred sets of tomato blossoms...

  • Open shelving has been installed on this wall.
  • Large white mugs at the ready for coffee, soup, oatmeal, or hot chocolate.
  • Varying shades of white and cream keep the kitchen light.
  • The built-in has the appearance of bead board on the doors and sides, and was the inspiration for adding bead board a little more than halfway up on the kitchen walls.

A Kitchen Doesn't Have to Be Perfect

My farmhouse was built around 1875 and so the kitchen doesn't have a lot of stock cabinets. Instead, we have freestanding pieces along with a roomy built-in cabinet. We recently added ...»
bead board to the kitchen walls and will soon add more open shelving as we have no upper cabinets. More info about the beginning of this project is on my blog. But for now, here are pics of what we've done so far, although the walls and trim will get a fresh coat of paint similar to the colors already seen. #Bestof2012 #MyKitchen

New Use for an Old Door

We were in need of something to add character to an empty wall in our kitchen. So my husband and I removed the glass insert in an old door, stapled a burlap sack to the back of the ...»
opening, and added shelves made from pallet boards. So simple!! I love the way the door fills the space and it has provided me with great storage to display my vintage finds!
