  • Any ideas how to make the ceramic tile here non-skid?

Decks & Patios: What would you recommend to make ceramic patio tiles skid resistant?

Our outdoor patio area has ceramic tiles that are as slick as glass whenever someone steps on them with wet feet from the pool. It's also very bad news when I walk around in my Croc flip flops while watering the plants! :) Seriously, though, these tiles are a very real hazard at my house that concerns me anytime we have a pool party. We bought a product and applied it last year that was supposed to make it non-skid. It didn't work for the long-term. For now we have 4 rugs out ...»

Go to the hardware store, or better yet a tile store, and ask for a matte sealer. A pool store ...»
might have one that is designed to add friction. Woodbridge was right; it will work. Adding bathtub stickers won't work; the adhesive isn't rated for sun and heat like that...Another idea; put down outdoor carpets for the first 5ft of the patio area, so that people's feet will be somewhat dry.

Gardening: How do I transport houseplants (some are large) across the country without killing them?

pillow cases (think thrift store) to set them in. You want them to be able to ventilate, from the openings in the bottom of your pot to the tips of the flowers. Also, it will prevent sunburn and conversely sun loss. They'll be respirating and transpiring while you're moving, so you might want to put wet paper towels on top of the soil to slow evaporation. Expect to have to water them on the trip, especially if the car gets too warm. You're gonna need to mist them as you get into dryer areas. Keep in mind that a lot of the plants you love will be available in Las Vegas (we live nearby and Star Nurseries are everywhere) but many plants won't withstand the differences in air/elevation and humidity if you bring them from such a humid environment. You might just want to budget $100 and get 3-4 huge plants when you arrive. Good luck!

Gardening: Weed or Flower?

My daughter in law dug up some Creeping Phlox from an old abandoned house. In among the phlox were these plants with yellow flowers. Can anybody tell me if this is a weed? It's pretty whatever it is. Thanks for your help.

The stone would be expensive to buy, but if you decide to carry it farther out there are quarries that sell it by the pallet. Nice job for anyone, let alone a diy project!
