Old Flatware Chest Gets a New Life

I found this flatware chest at a thrift store for $3.49! After a little demo and a new pretty paint job, it now has a new life! (You can see how I created a perfect harlequin pattern at the link below.)

Painting: Help Update My 70's Fireplace!

Our fireplace is brick and the light orange color is awful! I tweeted Drew and Jonathan Scott of the Property Brothers on HGTV and got some great advice!

"Do a darker base coat with faux effects then paint a lighter coat on top and scratch away the corners and edges."

Any other suggestions that are cheap and easy (other than just painting it a flat color?)

BTW, hate the insets, wish it had a mantle, but I ...»

am planning on painting the gold frame over the firebox black.

A Girl's Farmhouse Bedroom

We recently renovated an upstairs bedroom in our 80-year-old farmhouse for our four-year-old daughter. Visit my blog www.keepingitcozy.blogspot.com for all the details and before pictures.

Carpet has been glued to floor boards.

We just moved into a 40-year-old house, it obviously needs updating. This ugly carpet is in the kitchen! Worst of all, the carpet has been glued directly to the floor boards (no padding.) Any suggestions on what kind of flooring I can put in that won't be expensive, but still nice?

But with laminate, don't you need to also put an under layment?

  • Slice the pool noodle into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices, doesn't have to be precise.
  • Attach to string of lights with wire or fishing line. These will be attached to our patio umbrella when I'm sure the wasps that built a nest on it are dead.
