About Me:

Professional Interior decorator. See updates on my Facebook page too. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.38...

Favorite area of home improvement:

I enjoy Interior design for all budgets. Because the economy has been a bit sluggish, I've done a lot of redesign. That's a viable option for many home owners because using a lot of existing furnishings (especially larger, expensive pieces) is money-saving. My motto is "LOVE THE HOME YOU'RE IN ... AGAIN!"

different color scheme if she wanted to have it look more iconic for its style. Hey, unless their historic district has some sort of mandate saying the homes have to be style/period appropriate colors, I'd say follow your heart's desire on color! Do your thing and love it :-)

Outdoor Living: How to Get Privacy for a Patio and a Chain Link Fence

Hi! A chain link fence separates my home's backyard from a busy playground. I've planted schip laurels for privacy, but my home's backyard still has next to no privacy. I used to have a tarp on the fence, but it didn't last long. Is there something else I can do to provide privacy to our yard and patio? We are not allowed to plant vines on the fence.

If they're specifying "no vines" be creative (OK and a little sneaky..haha!) with other plants ...»
that will give you some privacy. We had neighbors at our other house who we weren't too happy with but the chain link between us was theirs. So I planted cheap, easy growing yarrow. It grew rather tall so it gave us some privacy and looked pretty too when it bloomed. I didn't care if it grew into their yard (and it did!) because they never took care of their yard anyway. When those neighbors left, I told the nice new neighbors I'd kill the yarrow if they didn't like it. They actually did like it so we kept it :-) You could also plant something a little nicer like hydrangeas or other smaller sized shrubs on your side of the fence.

Another thought..after looking at your photo----You could plant mock orange trees around the patio itself. They grow only to about 6-8 feet tall (or at least that's what mine grew to in our Zone 3). Lovely orange smelling white flowers too! You could have a little secluded area just around the patio.

Oh....how about building a pergola around the patio? You could then use outdoor fabric curtains between the posts to give you privacy when you'd like....or open if there aren't any kids out playing :-) Here are some examples from the web. (Not my own photos.)

Cute idea especially for a bedroom where a night light would benefit from a softer look.

I'd make sure to use TSP as a cleaner before any painting/priming. That outta do the trick :-) ...»
Make sure to wash it throughly and dry before starting on the priming/painting. But you could also ask at the paint store and see if they recommend anything further. Around here, they'd think I was nuts if I said I was going to paint tile. There are just some things that are "godlike" around here! Haha!

the phones from when they first were "invented" to when the big companies started taking over the phone services. Too bad they threw out all those phones :-( What classics! I still have a rotary dial trimline phone...very iconic 1970's. Still works and it actually rings...instead of some odd song or weird dinging sound like cells today :-)
