About Me:

Professional Interior decorator. See my blog too at www.cndesigns.wordpress.com

Favorite area of home improvement:

I enjoy Interior design for all budgets. Because the economy has been a bit sluggish, I've done a lot of redesign. That's a viable option for many home owners because using a lot of existing furnishings (especially larger, expensive pieces) is money-saving. My motto is "LOVE THE HOME YOU'RE IN ... AGAIN!"

  • An empty Parmesan cheese container makes the perfect container for homemade carpet powder.
  • Just 2 ingredients - stir them up together & you're good to go!
  • Just sprinkle it on the carpet, let it sit for a few minutes, and vacuum it all up.

Homemade Carpet Powder

Carpet powder is one product that I can't do without. Even though it is a reasonable price, I buy so much of it that it works out to be pretty expensive. Plus, it doesn't always work as ...»
well as I like.

Homemade carpet powder to the rescue!! It's cheap to make & it has not met an odor that it doesn't take care of. And I have 8 indoor animals - I should know!

You only need 2 ingredients to prepare a batch. Check out the link for the simple tutorial.

I've used the store-bought dry carpet cleaner called "Capture". It seemed to work quite well. ...»
But yes, it is going to leave some residue into the fibers (and under the carpet..you'll notice when you remove the carpet it's still there). On the other hand, there's little to no fragrance, no drying time and in a pinch, not a bad idea overall.

Chair Redesign

Another chair restored from junk, this I found sitting in a store here in Duluth. I picked her up one afternoon tucked her in my wagon and brought her home. The hunt for the right fabric ...»
began. I wanted something simple but yet made a statement. I named this one 'Gypsy' for her simplicity from the crisp white cotton fabric and carefree dandelions ready to take over your living room.

News from My Home Front!

After about 2+ years of writing a decorating blog, I decided just like the title of the movie "Something's Gotta Give"! So out went the blog and in came a newly designed website! The nice thing is you can see a ton of my work on the Project Gallery. All pics, no words :-) If you feel so inclined, come see the new site. http://www.cndesigns.biz One downside is, since the blog has been completely deleted, links from any of my past HT posts to it, will not be available. I'll still post ...»
some fun ideas here from time to time :-) Gotta say, HT is one of my absolute favorite places for idea gathering and sharing!

Painting fabric upholstery with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

We painted the outdated upholstery on these antique chairs with a mixture of 50% Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey and 50% water. We misted the fabric with a spray bottle of water ...»
with each coat of paint so that the fabric would absorb the paint and not be stiff. It took three coats of paint, with about 24 hours of drying time between each coat. We stenciled a french design on each chair using Annie Sloan Graphite. The blue stripe was stenciled with Aubusson Blue. We then distressed and glazed the arms and legs.
