  • After attempting to clean with Comet and Liquid toilet bowl cleaner I still had this nasty hard water build up scuzzy ring. 10
  • This is the AFTER picture :) 1
  • The lemon Koolaid works in the dishwasher too for removing the soap scum build up from the insides. Just put in in place of the soap and run an empty washer on it's regular cycle... The before and after will amaze you!
  • I know this looks nasty, but remember it's just Koolaid :) 1

If you have a restaurant supply store near you, you may be able to buy plain citric acid from ...»
there -- perhaps even in bulk. That's got an even lower environmental footprint, since it doesn't include all these chemicals: Citric Acid, Calcium Phosphate, Salt, Maltodextrin, Flavor(s) Natural, Lemon(s) Juice Solids, Ascorbic Acid, Color(s) Artificial, Yellow 5 Lake, Yellow 5, BHA.

  • On the left, we had our contractor move one of the top cabinets to the far right and ordered a new cabinet for the bottom right so we had some usable counter space there. 3

  • Well Pit in middle of Out door Living Space.

I need your help Hide Well pit

I Need your help, this well pit is in the center of our out door living space. What can I do with it this is not expensive or almost free ideas to hide this ugly thing. I normally buy a huge flowered table cloth and put planters on top but never last the summer.

I was thinking circle the thing with 8' chicken wire, maybe with the wire gathered to a point ...»
near the top, and plant some fast-growing, climbing vines around the edge. If it's in the back yard, maybe plant climbing beans or climbing peas or other climbing veggies. Might need some pieces of rebar or whatever to help anchor the wire.

What would you add?

We will be tearing out and re-doing the front beds in a few months when we replace our basement windows. I have never been happy with the overall look of the front but especially the R. ...»
side (pic#1.) The driveway is on that side and we have an additional spot for parking in front of the house (you can see the edge of a truck in the pic.) I feel like there needs to be vertical interest but am at a loss. This area is on the South side and gets the late day sun (starting at around 4 'til sunset). How would you continue or incorporate your idea into the left..I'm anal about symmetry. By the way, Hubs does not like bushes and any tree ideas need to be less than 6ft.

How about tying the porch color to the rest of the house by adding shutters to match the ...»
    porch?

Another thing you could do to unify the porch with the rest of the house is change the curtains on the inside of the porch to match the curtains in the first-floor room on that side of the house.

Maybe paint the window *frames* on each part of the house so they match the other part of the house, or use a darker shade of the green on the porch and a darker shade of the beige on the rest.

I would also try for some dark green foliage and very pale green foliage in a few of the planted areas; right now everything is more or less medium green. I think some "silver mounds" could work well.

Before and after. I painted the deck after scrubbing the house with clorox. Made my canopy from canvas.

I painted the deck after scrubbing the house with clorox. I got a gazebo frame and patio furniture off freecycle. I made a canopy from unbleached canvas and tied left over quilting strips ...»
on for decoration. Total cost...just the clorox...(4 gallons). I did it all in 2 days :) It was a combination birthday/mother's day gift to myself. I'm thrilled with it. I am still finding little things to hang up in the gazebo for interest...but I love it <3 What do you think???

Landscaping: Have any ideas on how my sellers can change their terraced backyard from awful to awesome?

All buyers have rejected the spectacular house because of the steep but terraced back yard. There is a walkout door from the basement about 20 feet from the first wall. They are willing ...»
to finish the patio and put in some landscaping but how to divert the attention from the edge and show that it is still useable space...thats the issue.

One problem is that there's no easy way to get from the upper tier to the lower tiers other ...»
than going all the way around to the end. I'd build some sort of stair between the tiers.

And there's the issue of *falling* that five feet because there's no fence. I would put a fence a foot or so back from each wall, and plant in the space between the wall and the fence to soften the line. On the second level, I would add benches -- some right up against the wall, and the others sticking out from the wall. Then add a table, fire pit, planter, whatever inside the L or U made by the benches.

I also like the idea of the landscaping allowance. Talk to the people who are interested, present them some options, and maybe they'll have an idea. Who knows, you might run into someone who would go for a raised garden bed along the edge of each terrace, or someone who thinks a series of koi ponds with waterfalls between terraces would be just the thing.
