Walls & Ceilings: Can I make an island with an opening in a load bearing wall?

I have a relatively small kitchen........I think it is about 12x14. There is no natural light and I hate that. I want to add an island and place something like this facing out to the LR. The LR wall is loadbearing. Is this possible?

  • My sister brought this to Florida from New York for me to have.
  • I did the chemical stripping out doors in the driveway. But due to the humidity in Florida I had to move indoors to apply the stain and finish.
  • The Only problem was my wife did not care for the fact that I applied the finish in the middle of her living room of our Condo. I don't have a shop. She is glad I am done and that she has a new desk to use.

refinishing and repair when I got it. A dog had chewed off one leg and part of the front just above the top drawer. The original finish was dark lacquer and the wood grain could not be seen through the dark lacquer. I repaired the foot and the front, and stripped the whole thing down to bare wood. I stained it with MinWax Red Mahogany #225, and finished it with MinWax Tung Oil hand rubbed and wet sanded in between each coat.

  • The cabinet to the left with the round knob is a spice pull-out. The cabinet to the right is a two-drawer base. 1
  • Here are the options - pull or knob? In the rest of the kitchen, I am using knobs on the upper cabinets & base spice pull-out and I am using pulls on the drawers.
  • Here is how the corner drawer functions. There is a 90 degree, two sided facing. Should I use one or two?

Cabinets: Knob or Pull - Which One Should I Use?

We recently had our cabinets installed, and I'm trying to determine what to use on the corner drawers. These are 2 actual functioning drawers, not a lazy susan. ...»

Which one -- knob or pull?

Where to place them -- top center or middle of raised panel?

How many -- just on one side or on both sides?

*Note: There is not enough room to place a pull horizontally.

Neither. I would look for a ring pull in the same finish and mount it at center of joint, ...»
making a mounting block if necessary

But being a "Customer is always right" guy, I could do the same with a knob pull. I would need to stretch myself to do a pull handle on that
