Spring is Blooming!

There is nothing like watching the gardens come to life in the spring! I love playing in the dirt. But even if you don't have a green thumb, you can enjoy a profusion of color and ...»
interest all year round. My low-maintenance, easy-care gardening philosophy is to plant lots of bulbs, flowering tress, shrubs and perennials. Plant once and they will reward you with years of multi-season interest. They actually get better with age and require very little care. I save the annuals for pots on the porch and patio. They require watering several times a week, but that's pretty manageable. A combination of perennials and annuals is the best of all worlds. And investing in plants that will last for many years to come is a thrifty alternative in the long run. Here's a peek at what's blooming in my yard this spring!

Beautiful Outdoor Area On a $100 Budget!

I created this outdoor patio area for my husband I after we had just got married. Everything you see in the pictures cost around $100.00 using Dollar Tree, Ikea and Big Lots! I was so ...»
happy with the way it came out.

I had a plug in chandelier that I had purchased for my wedding that I knew I wanted to use centered above the table, and that's how my ideas got started. I then hung Lill Curtains ($2.50 from Ikea) Around the entire patio and it really changed the look instantly.

For a complete breakdown and helpful tips to get the same "look" you can visit my blog at:

  • All the rustic bling makes for a fun focal point in the backyard. The white planter box use to be a firetruck parts crate. A couple pallets offer a front step and side walkway. A rusty old vintage headboard became a gate. 9
  • The before. The lovely cow mural was hand painted by a friend, which now is safely in storage until it lands a new location. 4
  • Odds and sods were used to create a door. The wreath is made from canning jar lids. 6

A rustic shed made from reclaimed lumber

A little green house in my backyard received a facelift. The plastic was replaced with repurposed fencing boards captured from another's burn pile, a few barn windows, then the decorating ...»
began. Junky relics were added to create a fun focal point which now houses firewood.

This shed is part of a 4 part series showing the entire build. Lots more to see!

This year we planted Surfinia petunias in the mailbox planter and they are doing very well.

They were cut back after the 4th of July and are growing back thicker and full of blooms that will continue until frost. Planning on a painting a brick mailbox planter for people with ...»
brick homes as another option over the brick mailbox column and a stone textured mailbox planter. The weather is perfect for painting again. Stay tuned!

Pallet garden loungers

Garden furniture can be very expensive and here's a simple idea on how to make free or almost free garden loungers using simple pallets. ...»

I used 5 pallets and some wood scraps to make these two and that part was free. If you want to paint or add cushions (recommended!) that will be extra but all in all this cost me $10 for the red paint and that's it!

The basic idea of how to make these is to take two pallets of the same rectangular shape and stack them on top of each other, do the same with the second lounge chair. Then take the last pallet, divide it in half and add some wood scraps to construct two backrests that you attach to the stacked pallets with two screws. Minimal sanding and some paint and you're done.

I must warn you that the idea is simple but deconstructing the 5th pallet is pretty hard physical work but can be made easier if you have the proper tools and/or a muscular guy to help :)

Check out my blog for more photos and detailed instructions on how I went about it:

My use of shoe bags

I have made so many uses for these, I like the netted ones, I have them in three places now, one in the garage in my storage area that holds all my cleaning things, sprays, attachments, ...»
ect. The next is in the guest room on the back of the bedroom door. This hanger holds all the needs a vistor may need: shampoo, toothpaste, bandaides, playing cards, hair tyes and so on and much more...... and the third is in my office/nana room that holds pens up high and toys down low.

things in their place, it neatens things up, just be open minded, especially small items or multiple items!!!
