About Me:

I'm Laurie and I blog over at Laurie's Little Bits of Creativity, etc. I dabble in a little bit of everything including diy, crafts, home decor, cooking, etc., and always in a thrifty way.

Favorite area of home improvement:

It's hard to narrow it down. I love transforming something I find at a garage sale, whether it's an old frame or a piece of furniture into something useful and beautiful again.

Burlap "Bookpage Style" Wreath

I am totally caught up in the magic of Burlap lately, I wanted to make a wreath, but not just any old wreath. I loved the look of the book page wreaths everyone was making, so I decided I ...»
would use that style and incorporate the look of Burlap! It did take a little longer than making the book page wreath though, cutting that Burlap can be tricky and time consuming, but well worth it.

Garden Archway, from old doors

I made this garden archway, I used 3 old doors and one old shutter closet door. We had old paint kicking around so this project was completely free to build. I used edging that was on the ...»
one door for cross supports, and the old hinges were reused as well.

  • Before shot of our kitchen. It is on the small side and was very dark. 1
  • We tore out our existing backsplash and created a custom hood above the cooktop. I opted to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to help me achieve the french country feel I was looking for. Working on finishing up the rest of the cabinet doors 4
  • Old Ochre paint and new knobs. 3
  • I use a moist sanding block to sand with. It keeps the dust at bay and makes a buttery smooth finish.
  • Dark wax applied to help age the cabinets.
  • It is a long process to achieve this look but to us well worth it. 1
  • I stil am working on finishing up the remainder of the cabinets but am just thrilled with how far our kitchen has come from where we first started. 1

Creating a French Country Kitchen Cabinet Finish Using Chalk Paint

We are in the midst of a mini kitchen DIY reno. Hubby finally caved and agreed to let me paint our wood cabinets and I created a french country rustic feel for them using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

  • I went through my daughter's closet and separated and labeled everything. Most of the totes and baskets came from the dollar store.
  • I found these stackable wired shelves to be helpful with organizing shoes and creating a shelf for baskets.
  • I really love the combination of the baskets and the totes. I have had the brown baskets for a few years and they have held up fairly well.
  • I already had this little paint bucket. You can find these at any home improvement store. I used my Cricut to print off vinyl letters and threw travel size bottles and diaper bag stuff in it.
  • I found these free faux chalkboard customizable, printable labels from the internet and printed them off and used them for the totes.
  • We created the chalkboard labels for the basket with leftover scrap wood. I added a little ribbon to dress it up a bit.

Organizing a Toddler's Closet

I have really been wanting to get my house organized this spring. I have closets that are over-flowing with too much stuff. You know the kind that when you open the door everything come ...»
crashing down on you. :) My daughter's closet is probably the most used and unorganized closet in the house. Something had to be done with it, so a I spent a few afternoons sorting and purging out things she no longer needed. I added some totes and baskets from the dollar store and started labeling. It is such a great feeling to have that space organized. Please stop by my blog to see all of the before pictures.
