I'm trying to redo my 11 year old daughters bedroom and really having a hard time figuring out how to hang curtains.

Its hard to see in the picture, but see how the window butts up against the bookshelf? How do I hang a curtain rod in this situation? Any ideas??

Looking to re-surface porcelain tile on front porch

My front porch is porcelain tile - total area is 4x5ft. It gets rain and full sun, so I know that painting is not recommended. Can I cover it with a layer of concrete or mortar. My ...»
walkway is concrete. I think there needs to be some continuity. My budget is tight, so jack-hammering everything is not an option. Thanks.

Koi Pond

My husband, sad over the recent passing of his beloved 13 year old Basset Hound, Molly, decided to build a koi pond in her memory. He'd never built a pond before. We did some research ...»
and decided to use landscape timbers. We bought a pond liner first and then built the outer dimensions to coincide with the liner dimensions. He used carpet reminents to line the bottom of the pond and then bought an in-expensive roll of attic insulation and lined the inner edges. Then he added the liner. He used an extra row of landscape timbers on top to help anchor down the stapled liner on top. We added water, a fountain bubbler and a "spitter." Here is the end result. I think he did a great job! We still plan to add pond plants, koi, stain the wood and add plantings around it.

I'm new to this site, and decided to post pictures of the things that keep me busy .

I like to garden and love repurposing "anything", like the compass you'll see here that I made from an old concrete septic tank cover. Pics that follow are some of my outdoor projects: ...»
made a bottle tree, a fish pond, grew and dried birdhouse gourds, made raised gardens, painted an old bench, painted rug onto my deck, harvested 40' bamboo, cured them and made a trellis, made a peaceful walking/sitting area in the woods out back. I'm a DYI'er that began as a financial necessity and grew into a passion.......By the way, if you haven't talked to the great people at Four Season Nursery yet, or shopped for mulch, gravel and plants, you're missing an opportunity. They are knowledgeable and dependable. My husband just smiles at me and hates to leave me the truck...he knows I'm going there for a load of something.

Useful space I created under my basement stairs

I utilized almost every inch of usable space under these stairs. 30" deep drawers under the lower section and a small mini bar in the higher back part. and also a deep storage area beyond the countertop.
