tos? Have you done them with fabric coverings? Such a clever idea! My son has some of those thin smaller rimmed tires that are now bald and taking up my valuable garage space... Looks like others are adding an email, so here goes vb_stroud@yahoo.com sure hope I don't get blasted with a bunch of spam :)

  • Before, note the one small window that allows very little light in the kitchen due to a patio and a huge tree. 4
  • I did a lot of prep work before I started priming.
  • I used a paint sprayer to primer and paint all of the doors and drawer fronts. 1
  • After several coats of primer and semi-gloss paint. 1
  • I painted my hinges and installed new knobs instead of the brass colored handles. 2
  • After--so much cleaner and brighter looking, don't ya think? 16

How I painted my oak cabinets

Because my kitchen has only one small window, it tends to be very dark. I decided to brighten up the room by painting my cabinets. ...»

I have a step by step process on My Repurposed Life http://www.myrepurposedlife.net/2010/12/how-...

I painted the cabinets about 18 months ago. Not a nick or a scratch anywhere. I really took a lot of precautions to make sure this paint STUCK.

Flooring: Pine flooring? Yay or nay

Anybody out there ever use 1 x 8 or 1 x 10 simple pine boards for flooring? Thinking it could be less expensive than hardwood and there's a plan to possibly sand, prime, paint anyway. Thoughts?

Yup, I thought they were very pretty. Even used them on stairs but make sure you seal them ...»
good because the dirt will grind into the wood. I have also seen ppl tongue and groove the boards and they are beautiful with a good stain and hand rubbed wax....

  • The painted vinyl was set in place and easily cut to the exact size in the shape that we needed. 6
  • The back side of the vinyl was primed and base coated. The image of the design was projected on to the surface and traced with chalk.
  • It was laid out on the floor where the design was painted starting from the inside and working outward. 1
  • . . . and painted . . . and painted! 2
  • Top coats were applied. It was allowed to dry before rolling for transport. 2

Hand painted floor cloth . . . on a budget.

At The Next Cool Event, one of the exhibits was a design inspired by "I Dream of Jeannie". The idea was to create a floor that appeared to be custom tile. . . on a budget. Instead, we ...»
used the back side of a piece of linoleum vinyl flooring that we got as a remnant. My first custom floor cloth project was done this way almost 15 years ago. With quality products, they last for years.

Don't discount old ugly furniture.

My husband and I love mid-century design, but it's so expensive, and sometimes difficult to find. We found this old sofa and chair at a garage sale for $75. Still had good bones, so we ...»
took it to a reupholstery shop, and for $275, they recovered them (including fabric!). Now we have a really cool mid-century set, of much better quality than the new reproduction stuff you find today. Reupholstery isn't as expensive as you think, and we now shop with that in mind.

  • cabinets open. Hard to tell on these photos but cabinet opens to reveal 3 storage areas. Each outside door is pegboard on top and shelves at the bottom. Center unit is walled up half way with places to hang on each side and above center divider is shelving. 3
