together throughout the whole floor? That's a first for me in seeing something like that done. Very impressive!Did you come up with that idea and install it yourself?

Big box stores offer classes that show you how to install tile. They will also instruct you ...»
about the tools and accessories you will need. But don't feel obligated to buy you tile from them. Look around at tile stores. They have a much better variety of tile, and displays that can give you ideas for your projects. One thing I will suggest is to wear gloves. Dishwashing gloves work well. You will probably go through several pairs. The backsplash is a good project to start with. You probably won't need to prep the walls, just install them with tile mastic, and then grout. It's also small enough so that it won't overwhelm you, and will give you experience with handling the materials (tile, tile mastic, grout), and familiarity with tiling before you tackle the floors, which are a much bigger job. Doing the backsplash first will also give you an idea if you like tiling and want to go on to the floors.
