to buy otc, and with the cost of chemicals nowadays, it probably won't cost you much more. Most companies have deals on first applications and you don't have to committ to any contract.

IF the tree is brown and it's oozing, there is obviously something bad going on. Hopefully ...»
Walter will respond to your response to him. He is obviously an authority on this. But unless this tree holds some sentimental value to you, I would just get rid of it more than likely. Break some twigs off some of the branches and see if ther eis any green left under the bark. If it's brown and brittle, that part of the tree is dead and not coming back. Sometimes I'll start at the very top and outsides of the tree, breaking twigs and branches as I get closer to the trunk, looking for green. if I find no green, the tree is probably a goner. If you do find green, it may live but if yo uhave dead branches, it may never look right again.

Ivy is actually pretty easy to pull up if you are fairly young and strong. You can pay a ...»
neighbor teen or two to go to town and they can probably get 80% of it up very quickly for cheap money. They need to use a hard tine rack though to get up most of the roots. Roundup takes weeks and multiple applications and can very expensive. When I have the option, I just prefer to NOT use chemicals unless I have to.

Gardening: Evergreen Screen for privacy.

We are in the process of planning the evergreen screen for the backyard of our home. Right now it is very open and very large. In the future we will put the deck and possibly the pool, but want to start the screen asap. Any recommendations on the selection of the plants and any other provisions to keep in mind would be appreciated. You can see on the photo that the messy neighbors and always hungry deers are both serious issues for us.

culprit. In your case, it might just be food in your filter or stuck at bottom of the dishwasher. I never put food in dishwasher and rinse 99% off before putting in the machine.

without using harsh chemicals, you can always try a water, mineral/vege oil, soap mixture ...»
which you can google. Otherwise, you will have to go with a chemical like malathion or some other insecticice. they are more effective, but I'm not a big fan of using those strong chemicals around my house.

completely greened up and will now start to fill in and thicken. If that blotchey green and brown bermuda pic they used in the mass email mailer is your lawn, then you have a more serious problem.

BTW, you should have put down pre-emerge in the fall, winter, and early spring. If you did that, you shouldn't have many weeds at all, if any. IF you didn't put down preemerge, you will be fighting weeds the rest of the season, including crab grass. Hopefully you did that.

LIme will help, but won't make much of a difference, especially short term. You may want to have your soil PH tested through local county extension office.

Sometimes certain weed killer products tend to stunt the lawn temporarilty. The over the counter stuff nowadays is junk compared to the commercial stuff the companies can get (which require a license). If you don't want to pay a company to come out every 4-8 weeks for $45 or so, you should at least have them come out in the fall and spring. Believe me, the 2 or 3 visits are VERY MUCH WORTH IT since their chemicals are so much better and will give your lawn a great start.
