Decorating With Rope Ideas

I love working with natural elements when crafting and making things for the home. Rope, Jute, Twine and Sisal Rope are my go to standards. I put together these amazing clips on Hometalk on my board "Designing with Rope Ideas".

  • using a clean glass jar, apply removable adhesive labels of your choice (i used round labels from the office supply store)
  • turn your jar upside down to prevent paint overspray + apply several light coats
  • once dry, gently remove the labels
  • add a layer of glass floral beads or sand. this protects your surface from heat damage from a long-burning candle
  • i love the playfulness of the dotted design 1
  • but he's even prettier as the sun sets! 1

  • Succulents are a perfect plant for this kind of project.
  • My hypertufa planters from previous post
  • I used Playtex gloves as my mold
  • And florist wire wrapped around a pencil to make these cork screw things to use as "rebar" in the fingers
  • I slid the cork screws into the fingers and filled the glove with the hypertufa mixture
  • And after 7 days of curing, we have a hand

Can Someone Give Me A Hand?

I've been dying to try my hand at one of the hypertufa hand planters again this year. Last year I tried one and half my fingers fell off, so pretty much anything would be an improvement. ...»
Doubling the amount of Portland Cement in my normal hypertufa recipe plus adding the "rebar" appears to have made all the difference. My hands came out perfectly and are hard as a rock. Or cement.

The recipe for hypertufa can be found on Hometalk on this post - http://www.hometalk.com/1285023/making-light... or on my blog on this post - http://www.houseofhawthornes.com/2012/05/mak... .

Garden Planter Dresser

Ahhh, this dresser. From Wal-Mart when my 5 year old daughter was born. I redid it for my son's room and when it started falling apart, I just couldn't bear to toss it. So I am giving it one last chance in my garden! It is really coming around as the plants are filling in and I couldn't be happier!
