  • I picked this up at a thrift store to be my practice model.
  • Since it is a full size, I shortened the footboard pieces by 4" each when I cut the footboard in half. A little exterior paint, a bit of sanding, and a clear coat to preserve it. All paint was left over from our home.

Thank you Hometalkers!

I know this has been done a thousand times (or more) but until I saw it here, I wouldn't have tried this myself. This is a practice run for my great-grandmother's bed frame that I will turn into a bench in the future.

  • New galvanized buckets can be "aged" by spraying them with bleach.
  • We used a purchased rod system, but I can't recommend it. It's best to use a metal conduit pipe.

Topsy Turvy Galvanized Bucket Planter

Do you love those whimsical topsy turvy planters as much as I do? Have you ever wondered how they are made? Here's one I made recently using galvanized buckets. You can find more details, including the plants that I used, by visiting our blog.

  • I grabbed an empty jar, some flat sided marbles and some good glue
  • I glued the marbles all over the jar in a random pattern. 1
  • I then took a solar light from the Dollar Tree and took the long pole off. I dropped the light part, solar cell at the bottom, into the jar
  • I spray painted a leftover wooden stake a dark blue and screwed the cap of the jar lid into the pole.
  • And then screwed the jar onto the lid. Not only does it shimmer in the sunlight, it gives off a soft blue glistening glow at night thanks to the solar light inside.
Should the light quit working,
I can simple untwist it and replace the battery in the light. 1

my lack of patience, it had to be easy. I grabbed an empty jar, some flat sided marbles and some good glue and went to work.

  • This quirky, double wide sized pallet wood chair is all decked out, ready for a great summer read.
  • Two pallets, 4 legs and two armrest boards are really all it took. So easy! The trick is to ensure you find two pallets that are similar in size.
  • Let's add more quirk to make it totally yours! This signboard was used as an armrest. Note how wide the board is... perfect for my coffee cup. Priorities here...
  • This leg has an antique level attached. This project is a little like 'Where's Waldo's Wild Additions?'
  • Pallet markings were celebrated by placing them in prominent places. Coffee bean sacks acting like large pillow cases were just tucked in place. No sewing required. 2
  • For the legs, a little bracing was required inside the pallet so the leg had something to stabilize against.
  • Tell me that isn't one big cool chair to curl up in! But let's add some comfort...
  • 5" foam cut to size (new from a foam shop) was key for the ultimate comfort.
  • This is a pallet SOFA I made last year, decked out in total bohemian style craziness. The build is much more size customized: http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2011/08/how-i-built-pallet-sofa-part-2.html

  • Used burlap, paint, buttons and a floral pick for this one.
  • Painted the top to look similar to birch bark and added lace to the bottom.
  • I used decorative paper and Mod Podge for these with some wine corks for a little something extra.

Recycled Six Pack Bottle Container Storage Caddies

I saved several six pack bottle containers to make handy storage caddies for my craft room. I decorated them with paint, burlap, paper and other embellishments.
