Bathroom: I would like to add a bathroom to a house with a concrete slab.

Would it be possible and less expensive to raise the bathroom floor for the plumbing rather than jackhammering out the concrete floor? The house was built in 1956 and I am concerned about what I will get into demoing the floor.
