Design & Décor: I want to renovate my kitchen and bathroom counters and paint my cabinets.

Will that be a good option and save me lots of money if my cabinets are in good condition? I cant afford new cabinets. Do you recommend it?

    Hi Nelly, ...»

There are a couple of options here. If you want solid granite then you have to have the old tops removed and new ones put in. You could also try Granite Transformations in Maitland, FL. They put thin granite right over the old surface. As to the painting, use a pro. There are many nfaux painters who do cabinets for me. This allows you to change the color, add glazing and other effects.

Kitchens: How difficult is it to add a cabinet to match the homebuilders cabinets?

I want to fill in the kneehole in the master. Also, which is more economical - refinishing the cabinets and adding interior drawers or just purchasing new cabinets for the bath?

Wow, that depends on a lot of variables. ...»

If the house is less than five years old, get a cabinet from the original manufacturer. If it is older than that, expect to pay a few hundred dollars for the cabinet and about the same for finishing.

    Good Luck

    Hi Angela, ...»

I am a CKD (one of about 2,500 "CKD"'s in the world). Thats a "Certified Kitchen Designer" I have worked with companies with over 200 employees and just a couple. Generally, you get better service from the smaller firms but most important, you need to find a designer who you trust and can communicate with daily. By the time this is over you will feel like family rather than like a big corporation came in and dictated how things are going to be. Check out NKBA.org
