Using Plastic Crates for Gardening

I am always looking for different ways to garden or to display my plants. I ran across this idea the other day. If you have seen this or done it, I'd like any input you have.

Make the most out of a small closet

nifty stackable hangers. Both are great space savers. In addition, since we also share a dresser, I purchased a cloth closet and some baskets at the $$store to use for all my personals. I can't stand anything on my floors so if you are wondering where I keep my shoe collection it is in another closet hanging on a shoe tree.

How have you solved your space issues?

Install your own countertop

In an effort to update our kitchen, we tackle an area each year. So far we have installed new flooring, given it a fresh coat of wall paint and re-painted the cabinets(they will be replaced eventually.) I ran across this video recently and we are considering trying to replace the countertop this year. As you can see it is quite knicked up, stained and is separating. Wish us luck!

Maybe it will inspire you to brave something new in your own kitchen or bathroom this year.

Many thanks and a new sump pump

A few months ago, I asked about sump pumps: http://www.hometalk.com/181956/sump-pumps Both KMS and Woodbridge gave suggestions along with advice. Well, life got in the way and we never got a new pump. Then Sandy was headed our way so DH brought a spare pump from work and tucked it in alongside our reg. pump and back-up pump.

We never lost power and stayed dry, but those 3 pumps were working their hearts out. DH discovered our pump was no longer working when he removed the spare to ...»

return it to his work. Armed with the knowledge I gained here, we bought a higher HP pump and it is fantastic! It barely runs and the casing water is very low.

I tell you this to say "Thank-You" to everyone here on Hometalk. I have gotten advice, encouragement, ideas and support along with laughter and a sense of community. Quite an accomplishment considering many of us will never "meet."

Blessings of Peace and Joy to you and your families, Dee

Creating a Toad Habitat

yes and no. the time to have your piping in is very soon. I am in NEOhio and my guys will ...»
begin hibernating by the end of Oct. If they don't have a place near where they feed they will look elsewhere. If you have any toads around now it is because of food and they would be delighted to have a place to over-winter. On the other hand many people do suggest waiting until spring-because of the laying of eggs. I am not set up for that but my toads have a spot nearby they use and come to my yard for food and lodging. I would personally suggest if you have the time, put in your piping and huts now and be done with it for the winter. This way you can have a little more time to figure out what type of watering hole you want to put in next year and not be fighting the spring rains, muddy ground, weeds and cold weather trying to get it all done.
