Crafts: Anyone cross-stitch out there? Need help with finished project!!

Just finished a very detailed cross-stitch project. First one I've done this large. Started as a beginner, ended as a pretty accomplished sewer (ha)! The fabric needs to be ironed before ...»
I frame it. After all that work I don't want to mess it up now. I've read how to iron it on the back side, but my question:

There are many tiny beads sew throughout -- is the iron going to hurt them? Any advice? Thank you!!

hi Julie....your work is beautiful.....and you received great advice. but if no one has ...»
mentioned this already....may I suggest having it professionally framed? very pricey but it makes a big difference. the only way to get the wrinkles out completely is to stretch the material and attach to framing. I would not iron it, from my own hit and miss experiences. I no longer do cross stitch but have many framed work in my home. good luck.

  • This is a simple, easy craft for kids and adults.
  • Any used food jars will work. Keep the lids! 1
  • Cover the jar with flat-bottom marbles using silicone sealant as an adhesive.
  • Attach the jar lid to a post or dowel using a wood screw. 1
  • But first hide a wish and tiny toys inside for a surprise later.
  • Check the jars every now and then. You never know when you might find a treasure!

How To Make Garden Treasure Jars

I started making these treasure jars when my kids were little and they wanted to make some garden art of their own. Because the jars remain functional, you can hide little notes and toys ...»
inside. Use them like little time capsules or part of a treasure hunt. And, of course, the covered jars look like pretty jewels in the garden.

1. Cover any used jar (keep the lid) with flat-bottom marbles (also sold as 'florist stones' or 'glass gems'). I use GE Silicone II sealant (clear, waterproof) as an adhesive.

2. Mount the lid on a post or dowel.

3. Attach the jar.

Notes and tiny treasures can be added at any time.

  • Before shot of our kitchen. It is on the small side and was very dark. 1
  • We tore out our existing backsplash and created a custom hood above the cooktop. I opted to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to help me achieve the french country feel I was looking for. Working on finishing up the rest of the cabinet doors 4
  • Old Ochre paint and new knobs. 3
  • I use a moist sanding block to sand with. It keeps the dust at bay and makes a buttery smooth finish.
  • Dark wax applied to help age the cabinets.
  • It is a long process to achieve this look but to us well worth it. 1
  • I stil am working on finishing up the remainder of the cabinets but am just thrilled with how far our kitchen has come from where we first started. 1

Creating a French Country Kitchen Cabinet Finish Using Chalk Paint

We are in the midst of a mini kitchen DIY reno. Hubby finally caved and agreed to let me paint our wood cabinets and I created a french country rustic feel for them using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

  • 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar
  • 1 cup of water
  • Step 1: Pour vinegar and water into a microwave safe measuring cup or bowl. 1
  • Step 2: Place measuring cup or bowl in the microwave and heat it until boiling; this will vary by microwave. Its best to keep a close eye on it as it begins to boil. Over boiling may cause excess steam to build up causing the microwav
  • Step 3: Allow the measuring cup or bowl to remain in the microwave for approximately five minutes so that the steam can accumulate inside the oven.
  • Step 4: Carefully open and remove the measuring cup or bowl .Wipe the inside of the microwave clean with a damp sponge. For stubborn stains dipping your sponge in the remaining vinegar and water mixture (careful not to burn yourself )
  • Step 5: Dry with a paper towel
