How To Make Homemade Goo Gone

Recycled glass jars and bottles can be put to lots of good use around the house for storage or decorating. The most challenging part of recycling glass jars, however, can be getting the ...»
label completely off with no traces of the sticky gunk left behind. In the past I've used a product called Goo Gone for this job and it's always worked well. But guess what? You can make your own Goo Gone by simply combining vegetable oil and baking soda. I tested it out on a couple little glass jars and it really does work! You can click on the link below to read the complete instructions.

  • My Quilt Wall 4

A way to add color and insulation to an old plaster wall without major construction.

I used insulation foam boards, cut into 15"x15" squares. Than I covered each with batting and fabric using duct tape. To hang on the wall I used double-sided velcro so they can be taken down to clean, or rearranged. It really made this drafty room so much warmer.

I would like to repaint my living room a neutral color that would go with my mid-century collections.

My furniture is neutral, so I'm game. I just have no clue what to pick. It has to be a color that is light, or will reflect light, as the room itself is fairly secluded from anything ...»
but morning light. Any suggestions? Oh, PS: the front door is now a deep orange inside and out.

  • After a few coats of poly, all done. What do you think? 3
  • When I got the table home, this is what I found.
  • Glued the loose veneer, used wood filler and sanded the area smooth. Because of the repair, I decided to paint the edge and the trim on the apron. I used milk paint for the first time and really liked it because it goes on very smoothly. A little golden oak stain to touch up a few minor scratches on the top.
The top needed something to tie in with the black trim and base. 1
  • A stenciled design to the center of the table did the trick.

mistakes and learn from them. A little glue, wood filler, paint & stencil made this transformation happen.

How long did it take you? And is the trim paint, or did you attach a piece around the edge?

Furniture: in the market for a bedroom dresser. how important is quality in choosing this type of furniture?

My heart is telling me to go with custom or "real wood" but my wallet is shouting IKEA. For a static piece of furniture does it really matter?

Real wood! Ikea's version of 'wood' starts falling apt after a couple of years.

make it harder to clean it out? And what abt when it's time to replace it? I love how it's attached to the railing though - perfect height for grilling, and it doesn't take up any of your precious entertaining space.
