How to build a loft

We got this crazy idea to build a loft that extended the back space of the room, with both of their mattresses butted together. So we designed, and built it. ...»

From Crib to Big Boy Bed; a Room Makeover

When we moved my youngest son out of his crib last year and bought him a big boy bed, I decided it was time to ditch the baby room and update his room to reflect his interests and awesome ...»
personality. He requested a room with dinosaurs and baseballs, so with new paint, (yes, thats a red ceiling!) some easy DIY projects, and smart shopping, I was able to create a room that doesn't feel like a typical themed kids room AND didn't break the bank. The result is a fun, quirky space with a stylish mix of vintage and modern that we both love.

How to paint a ceiling medallion for kids rooms

1.Start with latex paint in a satin finish.

2.Have a damp rag ready to remove paint.

3.Using a 2 1/2" nylon brush apply a generous amount of paint to cover the entire ceiling medallion. Move quickly, do not allow the paint to dry.

4.While paint is wet, wrap the damp rag around your hand.

5.Using the tips of your fingers, lightly remove the paint around the inner and outer border and all ...»

the high points, exposing the white below.

6.Repeat this process, continually moving to a clean section on the rag. This will give your ceiling medallion the vintage or shabby chic look.

7.Once paint has dried, use a 1/4" nylon brush and paint the background of the ceiling medallion.

8.Repeat this process if necessary to achieve good coverage. Below is a finished example of a hand painted Marie Ricci Ceiling Medallion for Children's Rooms.

Here are the tools you will need:

second-hand furniture that I painted, a pair of IKEA bookcases, DIY electrical conduit drapery rod, hand-made draperies and other cost-saving elements to turn this room into my little slice of crafting heaven without spending a lot!

painter's tape to section off the stripes, painted, added wax, and some super-cute glass knobs!

Playroom Progress

Unfortunately we don't have a separate space for a playroom so we have changed our formal dinning room into our playroom. It's a much better use of space for our family. The only problem ...»
is that it's the first room you see when you walk in. And I was sick of seeing all those toys. So I am in the process of trying to make the room look a bit better. I painted the room and have been trying to add inexpensive diy stuff back into the room. My favourite part of the room is the egg basket light I found at an antique store and turned into an overhead light. #Love2Repurpose
