  • Here is our "Seek Happiness" Valentine mantel. I found the fun, *vintage-y* canvas on sale at World Market ... truly an unexpected purchase ... and thought that it would be a fun focal point for our holiday mantel.
  • I wrapped our white candles with decorative Valentine's ribbons (Michael's) to give them a bit of color ... and then added rose petals, along with a couple of cute Cupids.
  • Rather than create a garland, I simply hung pink and red hearts (that I also embellished with smaller, decorative hearts) at varying heights across the mantel.

Cleaning & Organization: Cleaning a self cleaning oven

I clean the self cleaning oven but there are spots that do not get clean. What can I use to get those spots clean without ruining the self cleaning finish on the oven?

  • Slightly bending the tops to the sides added an unexpected whimsical take. A star theme came into play with music sheet stars and one big guy just for fun!
  • The trunk was a great place to tuck a cozy throw blanket, waiting to be borrowed anytime.
  • The Christmas tree forest uses little real estate and brings a lovely focal point to the living room this year.

A Christmas tree forest in a crate

I have a 'habit'. Every Christmas I push myself to come up with something unique to do for a Christmas tree. This year, my collection of faux trees and I had a chit chat and decided ...»

  • This year's junk centrepiece came together in about 15 minutes. 2
  • Starting with a few attached wood planks so it can be moved as a unit, sheet music set the theme, then my rustiest best came out to join the fun.
  • Gears, vintage faucet handles, decked out candles, (more details in the blog post) ornaments and fresh greens got sprayed with some faux snow for a frosty effect.

One very rusty Christmas centrepiece

My kitchen island / table is fairly large. Since it's centre stage in my home, it calls for a little sprucing up for the holiday season. So every Christmas, I bring out my trashy best and ...»

  • The headboard indeed tells a story this season... it's wintery cold outside so make sure you have plenty of blankets! (which got changed out to white for the season) 2
  • A worksock hangs from a vintage sock stretcher, and a cute little button garland was created from ornament hooks. / Button garland tutorial is at: http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2012/12/a-button-garland-on-christmas-headboard.html
  • Even a cheerful red license plate plays along. The works got lightly dusted with snow spray.

Decking the halls... on a horse gate headboard

I don't normally decorate my bedroom for Christmas in a big way, however this gate with hooks totally makes it so easy and fun to do! Some fresh green garland tied together along with some hung up junk makes for a festive little getaway!
