Update Old Stairs with Painted Pine Treads and New Risers

This is my latest project in my 1979 fixer-upper house. Just finished adding new painted pine stair treads to the existing rough lumber stairs that were under the old carpet. This is a ...»
fairly easy project and coming in around $250 for 25 stairs, really cost effective. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. I'll add a runner down the middle later on.

Perennial Gardens

I cannot wait to get going in my new house with some flower/shrub beds and perennials. I did a perennial bed at my old house in Birmingham and it's been too long since I had my hands in ...»
the dirt. My new house is a blank slate waiting for some flower love and I can't wait to get to tackle some of the areas at this house too. I love flower gardens! Yes, I'm itching for spring. First thing up, is renovating my screen porch!

DIY Magnolia Wreath

I made this wreath using a left over grapevine wreath and free magnolia leaves that I had cut the year before. They were already dry and worked perfectly with hot glue, tucking the leaves ...»
in the grapevine and then adding a simple burlap bow. I turned some of the leaves showing their pretty brown backs and the mix of brown and green is so appealing.

Great way to say Welcome!

Outdoor deck in Birmingham, AL

This was a plain deck at my old house in AL that wasn't very exciting until I decided to do a little makeover on it with outdoor wicker, new cushions, rug, a yardsale umbrella and it ...»
turned into a cozy retreat that was very fun to hang out in. I used lots of yardsale finds too. I don't live in this house anymore, but I'm getting ready to move in a new house this fall and all of this wicker will go on my new screened porch! See all the details on my blog:

Updated Guestbath

One of my recent home projects has been renovating this 1970's bathroom. The tile floor was nice, but it definitely needed warming up with rugs and linens. New wall paint, painted vanity, ...»
painted countertop, hardware, shower curtain and cozy rugs, really make this space lively now. It's warm and toasty on a cold winter's night with the rug from Ballards and TJ Maxx bathmat by the tub. #keepingcozy

  • A yardsale birdcage was added to the middle of an old vintage frame.
Painting the table aqua brought in even more color to the space. The pottery piece is a favorite. 1
  • These vintage insulators are yardsale finds too, that's one of my
favorite ways to shop thriftily. Love their color and texture. 2
  • This is my former living room in Birmingham and just by adding a few
touches of aqua around the room, it was brought more to life. See the throw on the chair, pillow on the sofa, another pillow on the bamboo chair, a planter on the coffee table, and the aqua accessories on the fireplace mantel 6

Adding Aqua

Just by adding aqua to my former living room, it really added a lot of energy to this somewhat neutral space. The addition of aqua really made the room much more interesting and exciting by adding a softly vibrant color.

  • Adel white Shaker cabinets from Ikea, with creamy white subway tile and gray grout.
  • I especially love these two 36" base cabinets of all drawers. Granite is Kashmire White. 1
  • My island was handmade and I just repainted it gray to flow better with my kitchen.
  • Rustic shelves add a personal touch.
  • This big pantry was also big on my wish list and really comes in handy.
  • The rustic shelves are reclaimed wood from Southern Accents in Cullman, AL. and are my fave thing in my kitchen.
  • A coffee station to the left of the sink is used every morning. The sink is a Blanco granite sink in Metallic Gray and the cute green light fixture is from Ballard Designs.
  • One of the best things I did was to add this 12" open cabinet at the end of the run of base cabinets to house large platters and cutting board. Otherwise, it was just wasted space.

Painting Stairs and Adding Runners

With my house renovation, we updated the stair treads with new pine treads painted dark chocolate brown, as well as white risers. My plans all along have been to add a runner and I just ...»
got that finished. These are Dash and Albert indoor/outdoor runners and should be very durable for stairs. I used carpet tape and 1/2" staples to keep them in place and love the outcome!
