  • Slightly bending the tops to the sides added an unexpected whimsical take. A star theme came into play with music sheet stars and one big guy just for fun!
  • The trunk was a great place to tuck a cozy throw blanket, waiting to be borrowed anytime.
  • The Christmas tree forest uses little real estate and brings a lovely focal point to the living room this year.

A Christmas tree forest in a crate

I have a 'habit'. Every Christmas I push myself to come up with something unique to do for a Christmas tree. This year, my collection of faux trees and I had a chit chat and decided ...»

Several years ago, I had the idea of a "crystal forest;" so I found a little trio of trees and ...»
decorated it using only crystal and opalescent ornaments, white garland with opalescent sparkles and tiny white lights. When the lights were turned on, the whole little grouping just glowed...like sunshine after an ice storm. My friend saw if for the first time and gushed that it looked just like a Maine forest after an ice storm! Mission accomplished!!! Haven't been able to break the habit since!

Good taste, Vicky! I love that chandelier, too! ...»

Where did you say you purchased it, Ashleigh? I am looking for some ideas (found a great one...your chandelier!) for my poolside patio. I can't wait to shop for that light. Was it also available in colors? Thanks...I love your roon! P.S. Big Lots, garage sales and roadsign signs are my favorite places to shop!

  • After attempting to clean with Comet and Liquid toilet bowl cleaner I still had this nasty hard water build up scuzzy ring. 10
  • This is the AFTER picture :) 1
  • The lemon Koolaid works in the dishwasher too for removing the soap scum build up from the insides. Just put in in place of the soap and run an empty washer on it's regular cycle... The before and after will amaze you!

only the toilet bursh (no cleaning solution) every few days does WONDERS. Abrasive cleansers scratch the porcelan finish; the scratches provide a broken surface so crap (excuse the pun) can adhere as a ring and grow more crap!

Reclaimed wood flooring made from pallets and such

So I'm not cool enough to post a cool pallet project like so many other Hometalkers have done. But this is almost as cool - I happened across this amazing flooring made from pallets, shipping crates and other used wood. It looks fantastic and seems to be pretty well-liked:

Can you tell me about how many of the things you used to do this? How many square feet were ...»
you able to cover and did you put that gorgeous finish on before or after the boards were in place. I have been trying to find an inexpensive way to recover some bare wood floors...were you lucky enough to acquire them for free or did you have to pay for them? AND...where were you able to find that many of them?!!!! I'm just so full of questions, but this turned out beautifully!!! Thanks for the great idea!
