Does Your Deck Have Any Of These Signs Of Trouble?

This weekend, a Marietta, GA deck collapsed sending 2 people to the hospital. Since 2003, there have been thousands of reported injuries and more than 20 deaths as the result of deck collapses. The American Society of Home Inspectors recommends checking your deck at least once a year for these warning signs of impending issues:

-Loose connections (for example, a wobbly railing)

-Missing connections (for example, the deck is just nailed to the side of the house) ...»

-Corrosion (such as red rust)

-Rot and large cracks

Read more about deck safety on our blog: http://bit.ly/K7Dtgi

Concrete Garden Path

We made this garden walkway with a mold that we purchased at Lowe's. We mixed the Quickcrete up and then poured it into the mold a section at a time. It was almost like making mud pies. It was a bit time consuming but we were very happy with the end result. It has held up very well as it has been down now for about 3 years.

Please step away from the tools!

Great, you got the door closed but privacy usually requires no gaping holes for people to look through!! Ha!

Storage area turned into a play school!

One of my clients needed more play area in her house for her 4 kids, under the age of 5 so I turned her under-the-stairs storage area into a fun, colorful play school. A nice coat of ...»

This is great use of this area. What most people don't realize is that the stairway is your ...»
first means of escape in case of fire, and when used for storage of paint cans and newspapers it can be dangerious. Your open walls and sheetrock provides much more time for egress of that living area. See I'll bet you didn't even look at it like that.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: I have very little money to update my very old asphalt shingle siding.

Until I can afford the vinyl siding I want, I need to make do. If I can improve the look of my exterior (e.g. paint the existing siding?) then my neighbor might trim his landscaping so I can I partake of the outstanding valley view which I'm currently missing out on. I have a paint sprayer and access to some decent red exterior paint. What do you think?

want. If you decide to do it yourself I would suggest that you do some reserch and practice on some smaller tops first.

Turn a 1980's light fixture into a lantern for your garden!

Don't throw it out! ....re-use it! We found this cool light fixture at a Thrift store and could not pass it up! With a little frost spray paint and black spray paint we gave it new life in the garden as a lantern!
