DIY Custom Pantry Transformation

After two years of struggling with storage space in our existing pantry, we moved the pantry renovation to the top of our "Never ending honey-do-list". We started out with a common ...»
looking pantry with utility wire shelving hidden behind a set of bi-fold doors. But after a little "sweat equity" we transformed the pantry into a custom built-in with adjustable wooden shelves, drawer sliders, and the best part of all, all of the storage that we could ask for! (We're also working on a series of tutorials where we share the plans of how we built the cabinet. Here's the first set of plans: http://www.thediyvillage.com/2013/05/build-a...) #BeforeandAfter #DIY #kitchenpantry

Recycled chairs turned into elevated Dog Feeding Station

GRUNDTAL Shower Shelf (IKEA hack)

Plagued with the typical 32"x 32" builder special shower stall, I went on a mission to find a practical way to store my shower items without worrying about them getting knocked over of ...»
falling off the wall.

On a trip to IKEA I came across the GRUNDTAL hanging system and found a kit that contained three stainless steel shelves that attach to bars and hook over a rail. Without the bars they were perfect mountable shower shelves that could easily be hung on either side of our shower head.

After a quick coat of oil rubbed bronze spray paint, Matt hung them on the wall using wall anchors and screws. He covered the screw heads with silicone to prevent them from rusting.

The end result no more shampoo perched on tiny ledges. Everything is up off the floor and well within our reach.

Painting Upholstered Furniture

We were fortunate to inherit a set of comfy chairs that I quickly covered in slip covers. Sadly this left the ottoman sticking out like a sore thumb in our living room. After much debate ...»
and one really sad DIY slip cover I decided to paint my furniture, just like Hildi Santo Tomas did on "Trading Spaces" a million years ago!

  • Then the Ball jar is screwed onto the lid! 4
  • We started out with these 3 Ball Jars. They would shortly become the light fixtures above our kitchen island! 4
  • Here you can see how we prepared the lid. I used a step bit to bore the hole in the center, then drilled vent holes all the way around the lid to allow the heat from the bulbs to escape.
  • The light socket side of the pendant light kit is inserted through the center hole and a threaded collar is screwed on to hold the ball jar lid in place.

Ball Jar Pendant Lights ( Mason Jar )

The former owner of our house installed 3 pendant lights kits above the kitchen island. The kits are pretty nice because instead of having to be hard wired in, they screw in just like a ...»
light bulb. So instant transformation! The only thing we didn't like about the pendant lights were the existing pendants. We looked at most of our home improvement stores in the area, but didn't find the look we wanted. So we opted to make our own. Jacque decided she wanted to convert ball jars into pendants...And gave me the responsibility of making that happen.
