Fun Rustic Beach Signs From Reclaimed Fence Wood

I collected a lot of fence wood from curbside when we lived in the Panhandle of Florida. Hurricanes play heck with fencing along with everything else. When we moved back to our home in ...»
Tennessee I loaded that fence wood and all my other junk finds into the moving truck just like it was precious furniture! It's almost all gone now. I made some beach signs with some of it and they turned out great. You can view all the details on my website post.

  • I ran out of space in this tree circle – so MWHP (My Wonderful Hubby Phil) had the idea to move the washtub up – way up on the tree itself! 2
  • Feed grain scoops (again with MWHP's idea of placing them on the tree) with our favorite wind chimes we made from flattened spoons and vintage kitchen tools. (they sound so very pretty!) 2
  • Radio flyer wagon, washtub and an old heater repurposed as a plant stand.

Repurposed Junk Garden

"A garden is like a child: a little wild, hard to contain but makes me smile." - seen on a garden sign ...»

As greatly inspired by many – I've turned my love of junk to the outside of my house with a quite-a-bit of junk-influenced gardening.

Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients for a Summertime Front Porch:

It's not hard to create an oasis on a front or back porch -

1. round up a few comfy chairs or a lounge, maybe a swing. ...»

2. add a table to hold a glass.

3. pop in a few pillows and a splash of color in an accessory or two.

...and you have your OWN summertime retreat to enjoy!

Once upon a time, I lived in my dream house. And that dream house had a wide front porch that just said 'Summertime'... It was the perfect place to hang a swing, where I could sit and work or just relax. Add in a few patriotic decor details and a refreshing summer beverage, and it was truly my haven, my retreat. I enjoyed that porch in every season, but especially in summer!

These photos were included in my 'Sweet ReTreats' column in FOLK Magazine's Issue V, Summer 2012. #SummerStyle #OutdoorLiving

  • Ugly wires from your flat screen TV? 1
  • I created a mantel "box" for housing our wiring. You can do it, too.
  • Here's the bottom board resting on the columned facade, with crown molding added in the "up" position to create the bottom portion of the mantel box.
  • The slide-out lid to the mantel box is made from a board that has decorative molding attached to the front in the "down" position. Simply slide it out to access your wiring.
  • I'll show you how to mount a couple of anchor brackets, drill a hole, and run the wiring through the mantel box.
  • Inside the shelving beside the mantel, install the power outlet and use a blank light switch hole in the plate to run wiring for components.
  • The tutorial shows you how to level the mantel board and mount it for easy slide-out. Look how nicely the top and bottom of the box fit together, and the moldings add pretty detail.
